Was a driller by trade and tried farming but was a drunk which meant most of the time his 2 sons did the farming. 1910 moved family to Didsbury, Alberta , Canada wife and 7 children. Didn't work out and William ended up earning a living shooting gaming birds . 3 years later he moved the family back to St. Paul, Nebraska for awhile then some to Padroni , Colorado .It was about this time that Ida May left him they spent the rest of their lives living with their children moving from one to another. William died of a heart attach and Ida May died in 1957 March 10th in Sterling , Colorado. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ Recollections frrom Grand daughter Marie Alice Joseph - white Grand dad Smith was an easy going but charming old rascal . We didn't see him often , just when he blew in. He was also full of tales . Grand Dad chewed tobacco and was famous for a dribble from each corner of his mouth . How I hated to kiss him. Sometimes he would pay me a nickle for a kiss .. He always found a gallon pail for a spittoon and could hit it clear across the kitchen . He rocked all the grand kids by the hour and was handy in their care. He was a farmer but not a good one. He relied on his older children to do the farm work. Grandpa was what today is known as an alcoholic but he seemed to have long spells that it was not a problem. It interfered in the children's home with his habit so he built a trailer house on a bed of a truck and it was quite comfortable home for him in his remaining years
