Francis Gunter Dykes Welborn b. 1838/40 was my 2nd great grandaunt on the Gunter side and her husband George Washington Dykes was my 2nd great grand uncle on the Dykes side. (Her sister Permelius Gunter m. his brother Benjamin Franklin Dykes; were my 2nd great grandparents).

Anyway, after George W. Dykes was killed in 1862 in the civil war, she married G.M. Welborn. She had daughters Elizabeth b. 1859 and Matilda b. 1863, her being pregnant at the time of George's death. I have her husband listed as G.M. Welborn, and you have him listed as Younger Welborn. I do not know where my uncle came up with the name G.M.; but he has been researching our genealogy for over twenty years and that is the information that was given to me.

To clear up the post you have on GenForum 7/19/1998; Martha Dykes was the mother of George Washington Dykes, and Cinthia (Cynthia) was his sister.
I am not exactly sure who Sara E. Dykes is, I have a Sarah Ann Dykes who m. ??Scott. I have found more children that Martha Dykes and her husband Benjamin had than we had orginally found, so Sarah may be Martha's daughter. I would definitely like to make a connection there. Sarah and Francis were not sisters, but more likely sister-in-laws. I really would like to know what Francis' husbands actual name was. Also any decendents who are interested or may have information on the Gunter side.

Here are other Welborns in my tree.

Saravilly(?) Welborn m. Fletcher Jones b. est. 1840-1845 son of John Jones and Sarah Barefield

James Lawerence Welborn m. Tobitha Welch b. 4/1/1826 d. 9/1899 daughter of Bryant Welch and Sabra (Sally) Martin (I think I have alot of info on these)

Alonzo Welborn b. 1872 m. Candice I. Dykes b. 2/9/1886 d. 4/8/1951 daughter of George Allen Dykes and Mary Marzillia Jones

Their children are:
Orion Herman Welborn b. 10/16/1905 d. 10/2/1976
Oree Gorman Welborn b. 6/22/1908 d. 4/22/1962
George Evan Welborn b. 4/17/1910 d. 3/9/1971
Gauis Hilton b. ??

Jane Welborn 2nd wife of Millard Filmore Valentine b. 5/21/1853 d. 7/13/1943
Millard's first wife was (Amanda) Ellen Dykes daughter of Benjamin F. Dykes and Permeluis Gunter Dykes (sister to Francis).

Martha Dykes, she died in 1862, so I find it interesting that you found her on the 1860 census of Jones co. She is buried in Covington Co. next to Tabitha and Jesse Geiger/Gieger, in some woods that are grown over.

She must have either lived on the edge of Jones Co. or she went and stayed with another daughter we found Eleanor Jane who married Tabitha and Jesse's son Zacariah Geiger. Martha's maiden name was Geiger.

I don't mean to rattle on with all this other info, but the Geiger's, Dykes, Welborn, Jones, Gunter, Welch and also the Ishee's are so intertwined.

If you can make any sense of this I would appreciate any help you can give.

Thanks!!

his son Benjamin Franklin Dykes who married Sylvia.

My gggg grandfather is Benjamin Franklin Dykes b. 1761 or 1781 in S.C. he
    marrried Martha Geiger b. 1794 in S.C.
I no information on their parents. They had the following children:
Benjamin Franklin Dykes b. 1835 m. Permeluis Gunter
    George Washington b. 1840 m. Francis Gunter
    Sarah b. 1836 m. ?
    Martha b. 1841 m. J.F. Ainsworth
    Cynthia b. 1844 m. ?
I have checked with my uncle, he has no Eleanor Jane listed as being one
    of Ben and Marthas children,
also Benjamin Franklin Dykes who m. Permeluis has no child listed as
    Eleanor Jane.
Hope this helps and if this is the same Ben and Martha, I would like to
    see what information you have.

Looking for all descendants of Benjamin Dykes b. 1781 in SC. It has
been said that he was a schoolteacher in SC. He came to Jones Co. in
1837, then went to Jasper Co., probably in 1838. Not quite sure of who
his wife was, for the 1850 census of Jasper Co., have Martha listed, but
the death certificate of his son Benjamin Franklin Dykes b. 1833 lists
Elizabeth Coates b. SC as his mother, so Benjamin Dykes very well could
have been married twice. Martha Dykes is buried in the woods north of
Collin, MS., next to Jesse and Tobitha Geiger, the parents of Zacariah,
who married Eleanor Jane Dykes. Benjamin and Martha Dykes are also
listed in the Zacariah Geiger family bible.
Children of Benjamin and wife/wives are:
Eleanor Jane Dykes b. 1828 m. Zacariah Geiger
    Elizabeth Dykes m. Younger Welborn
Benjamin Franklin Dykes b. 1833 m. Permelia Gunter
    Sarah Dykes b. 1836 m. ???
George Washington Dykes b. 1838 m. Frances Gunter, she m. Younger Welborn
after G.W. was killed in the Civil War.
Martha Dykes b. 1841 m. John Thomas Ainsworth, he then m. Morning Amanda
    Gunter after Martha died.
    Cynthia Dykes b. 1844 m. ????
Would like to break down the brick wall beyond Benjamin Dykes, and his
wife or wives, so if you have any information please let me know. I have
alot of information, which I may post some from time to time. If you are
descended from any of the above, please add a post or email me, at
