Abraham commenced the struggle without means. Being enterprising and industrious, he had accumulated enough money to purchase eighty acres of land, leaving only fifty cents to his name. He kept steadily onward, dispersing his funds in the wisest manner. At the time of his death, Abraham was able to retain two hundred acres for his children. After Abraham's death, his wife managed the farm with rare good judgement and ability, her constant aim and objective was to sustain the reputation which was previously gained by her late huband.
Abraham was remembered by all as an honest man and a good citizen. He contributed his time and effort toward the building-up of his township, Homer, when he first arrived in May 1835.
