1647 Here lyeth buried Henery Brugis gent: who maried Francis Pigott one of daughters of Iohn Pigott Esquire and Winifred his wife, and grandchilde of Thomas Sankey Esquire and Alice his wife, who departed this life the 15th daie of Iune Anno Dom 1617: Aged 88: yeares and had Issue by the said Francis his wife 3: sonnes and 2: daughters.
Below it on the west wall of the chancel aisle, in a tablet with Ionic pilasters, is a brass with an inscription commemorating ' WENEFRID' only daughter of THOMAS SANKEY (SANKYE) of ' Edlesborowe,' WHO MARRIED JOHN PIGOTT OF STRATTON IN BEDFORD AND DIED 1592; it is surmounted by the figures of a man and woman in the costume of the period.

In the name of God Amen ye xiij th day of June Anno Dmi 1647 in ye three & twentieth yeare of ye Raigne of our Souvraigne Lord Charles by the grace of god of Engd Scotland France & Ireland King Defender of the faith &c I HENRY BRUGIS of Edlesborough in ye County of Bucks gent being sicke in bodie but of a sound & pfect memory thankes be to god therefore doe herein ordaine & make this my psent testamt and last will in manner and forme following, That is to say FIRST AND PRINCIPALLY I give & commend my Soule into the hands of allmightie god my Creator and to his sonne my only Saviour and Redeemer Jesus Christ assuring myself to be saved through his only merrits and to have life everlasting amongst ye elect and chosen people of god in the Kingdome of Heaven I bequeathe my body to th´earth from whence it came desireing to be buried as a pson ought to be; And concerning my worldly estate wch it hath pleased god to lend me for wch I give him most humble hearty thankes I dispose as followeth (that is to say)
FIRST I give and bequeathe unto FRANCES MY WELBELOVED WIFE all that my Mannor of Castroffe wth ye rights members & appurtennces thereof in Aston in ye pish of Ivingho in the said County of Bucks And all other my messuage Closes lands tents Rents servics Courts & pquisits of Courts Rights and hereditaments whatsoever wth all and Singuler their and every of their appurtenncs Situate and being in Aston aforesaid and in the pish of Ivingho aforsayd: And also all those my xixen acres of arable land be they more or lesse wth all and singuler their and every of their appurtenncs sevally lyeing and being in the pish and feilds of Edlesborough aforesaid aphereef? one half acre lyeth in Midlecross in ye furlong Shooting East into ye Middleway next the lands of THOMAS SEABROOKE on the south part; one half acre lying in the same furlong next the land of THOMAS CHESHEIRE on the North part; one other half acre in ye same furlong next the land of JOHN HALSEY ESQR on the North part one other half acre in the same furlong next the land of the said Jno Halsey Esqr on the north pte. Three acres together lyeing in Botts Hill bottome next the land of JOHN SMITH GENT on the East part. three half acres together in Robins feild in Bradlings Hedge furlong next the land of THOMAS EDGE on the North part abutting west into Bradlings Way; one other half acre in the same furlong; the towne Land on the South part; one half acre lyeing in the same feilds in Shiplands abutting west upon the said Last Half acre; one other half acre in the same feild in the picked furlong next the land of the said John Smith on the West yt abutting North on Bradlings Way, one more being a picked acre in Shepheards Hedge furlong next the land of MRS MEADE on the South part, abutting West upon Bradlings way against Cocks Close and One other acre in the same feild in the furlong over the path on the West side Wayting Hill next the land of Mrs Meade on the North part abutting west upon the land of the Deane of Windsor. To have and to hould ye sayd Mannor of Castroffe and all and singuler messuages Closes lands meadowes tents hereditaments & pmisses wth their & every of their appurts unto the sayd FRANCES MY WIFE and her assignes from and after my decease unto for and dureing the full end and terme of five yeares from thence next ensueing and fully to be compleate and ended And from and after th´end and expiracon of the sayd terme
THEN I give and bequeath all yt my sayd Mannor and all and singuler other the prmisses wth their appurts unto THOMAS BRUGIS MY SONNE and his assignes dureing the terme of his nrall life And from and after his decease to HENRY BRUGIS HIS SONNE my grandchilde and to his heyres forever, upon Condicon that they the said Thomas Brugis my sonne and Henry Brugis my grandchilde their heyres or assgs doe pay or cause to be payed unto ye said Frances my wife or her assgs dureing the terme of her nrall life from & after th´end of the said terme of five yeares the yearly Rent or sume of tenn pounds of lawfull English money at two feast dayes Th´annuciacon of the blessed Virgin St Mary and St Michaell ye Archangell by even and equall porcons; Wherof the first payment to begin and to be made at the next of the said feasts or dayes wch shall next happen after the end of the said terme of fyve yeares And yf it happen at any tyme the said yearly Rent to be behinde and unpayed in pte or in all by the space of fyfteene dayes next over or after any of the said feasts or dayes in wch the same ought to be payed as aforesaid being lawfully demanded That then yt shall and may be lawfull to and for her ye sayd Frances my wife and her assgs to enter into & upon the moietee or one half of all and singuler th´aforesaid pmisses wth the appurts and the same absolutely to have hold use possesse and enioy dureing the terme of her nrall life any thing herein conteyned or written to ye contray thereof in any wise notwithstanding
ITEM I give and bequeath more unto the said FRANCES MY WIFE all that my Mannor of Bowells wth the rights members & appurtenncs thereof And alsoe all & singular my messuage Closes Lands tents Rents svice Courts & pquisits of Courts quitrents royalties rights priviledgs & hereditamts whatsoevr wth all & singuler their & every of their appurts situate lyeing & being in the Towne & pish of Edlesborough aforesaid in the said County of Bucks. And alsoe all those my 3 half yards of meadowgrounds wth their & every of their apprts wch I late had and purchased of and from one JNO JENKINS lyeing & being in Billington long meade aforesaid in ye pish of Leighton Bussard aforesd in ye said County of Bedf, and all my deeds and evidence concerning ye said prmisses Except all that my xixen acres of arable land in the parrish of Edlesborough aforesd herein before bequeathed To have and to hould all that my sayed Mannor of Bowells and all and singuler my said messuage Closes lands meadowes tents hereditamts & prmisses whatsoever herein last menconed wth their & every of their appurtences except herein before excepted unto the said Frances my wife & her assgs after my decease unto for and dureing the terme of five yeares from thence next ensueing & fully to be compleate & ended
AND from & after th´end of the said terme I give & bequeath my said Mannor of Bowells And all singuler other the said prmisses herein last menconed except before excepted wth their & every of their appurts unto RICHARD BRUGES MY SONNE & to t´heires of his body lawfully begotten or to be begotten forever And for want of such issue Then to remayne to my right heyres forever Upon condicon alsoe that he ye said Richard Brugis my sonne his heires or assgs doe pay or cause to be pd to her the sayd Frances my wife or her assgs dureing ye terme of her nrall life from & after th´end of the sayd terme of five yeares out of the said prmisses the yearly rent or sume of twenty & five pounds of lawful English mony at two feast dayes or termer? of the yeare Vizt. At ye feasts of Th´annuciacon of the blessed virgin St Mary & St Michael Th´archangell by two even & equal porcons Whereof the full payment to begin & to be made at the next of the said feasts as shall first happen after th´end of the said terme: And yf it happen at any tyme that the said yearly rent of twenty & five pounds to be behinde and unpayed in part or in all by the space of xv days next over or after any of the said feasts or dayes in wch the same ought to be payed being lawfully demanded That then it shall & may be lawfull to and for the said Frances my wife & her assgs to enter in to and upon the moyetie or one half of my sayd Mannor of Bowells and all and singuler other the premisses wth their apprts herein last menconed and the same absolutely to have hould use possesse and enioy dureing the terme of her nrall life any guift or thing herein conteyned to the contrary thouegh in any wise notwthstanding
AND whereas I did promise unto RAPHE HUTCHINSON MY SONNE IN LAW the sume of Fyftie pounds to be payed after my decease In consideracon thereof and the full discharge of the same I give & bequeathe unto ELIZABETH HUTCHINSON HIS DAUGHTER & MY GRANDCHILDE the sume of Fyftie pounds of lawfull English money to be payed to her wthin five yeares after my decease

ITEM I give & bequeath unto FRANCIS BRUGIS MY GRANDCHILDE the sume of Fiftie pounds of lawfull English mony to be payed to her att her age of eighteene yeares; and shee makeing acquittance to my executor shalbe a full discharge for the same

ALL THE RESIDUE of my goods Cattles & Chattles moveable & imoveable reall & psonall whatsoever unbequeathed my debts legacies & funall expencs discharged I give & bequeath unto ye said FRANCES MY WIFE whome I doe herein ordayne & make my whole & Sole executrix of this my present Testamt & last will. And I doe intreate ye said RAPH HUTCHINSON and HUMFRY STOURTON MY SONNE IN LAWE to be Ovrseers to this my last will & to be helpers & directors to my said wife in this behalf.
