DORIS CRABTREE
MOUNT PLEASANT, Texas-Doris Mae Wooten Crabtree, 71, of Mount Pleasant died Wednesday, May 30, 2012, in Gilmer, Texas.
Mrs. Crabtree was born June 25, 1940, in Mount Pleasant. She was a retired educator; president and secretary of Booker T. Washington Alumni Association; charter member of Lady Mujaji Civic/Social Club; and member of Texas State Teachers Association, Classroom Teachers Association, National Teachers Association and Mount Gilmore Baptist Church, where she served as deaconess and member of missions department.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph Crabtree Jr. of Mount Pleasant; two daughters and sons-in-law, La Sonya and LeeAndra McDaniel of Mount Pleasant and Dr. Ja Near Anderson and Dr. Jahi Anderson of Irving, Texas; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary Miller and Dr. Dorisula Hawkins and Dr. Howard Hawkins of Mount Pleasant; one sister-in-law, Euela Wooten of Mount Pleasant; two grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.
Closed casket services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Gilmore Baptist Church with the Rev. Herbert Jones officiating. Burial will be in Piney Cemetery under direction of Tumey Mortuary.
The body may be viewed from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with visitation from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Wednesday, May 30, 2012, Doris Wooten Crabtree departed this life and entered a place of paradise. A wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend, she was born June 25, 1940, in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. On July 9, 1971, she was married to Ralph Crabtree Jr. and to this union, two children were born: LaSonya Wynette and JaNear Rochelle.
She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, in 1958. She later graduated from Jarvis Christian College and Prairie View A&M University with Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees, respectively. She did post graduate study at Texas A&M University, Commerce.
Mrs. Crabtree taught in the Bastrop ISD for one year. In 1963 she moved back to Mt. Pleasant, Texas, where she taught at Booker T. Washington (now Frances Corprew) and E. C. Brice Elementary Schools. She retired after 34 years of dedicated service. She was elected Teacher of the Year in the 90s and was named one of Jarvis Christian College Distinguished Alumni. She was a life member of several professional organizations, such as Texas State Teachers Association, Classroom Teachers Association and the National Teachers Association. She was a charter member of The Lady Mujaji Civic/Social Club and was selected as one of its Living Legends in 2007. She also served as secretary of the Booker T. Washington Alumni Association since 1984.
She accepted Christ at an early age as a member of the White Oak Baptist Church. She later united with Mount Gilmore Baptist Church where she served in various auxiliaries. She shared her passion for education by working with the Youth Department, especially Vacation Bible School.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents: Wilbur and Artesia Wooten; her brother, Arthur Wooten; a brother-in law, Eugene Miller; a nephew, Arthur Wooten Jr.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband, Ralph Crabtree Jr.; her daughters: LaSonya (LeeAndra) McDaniel and. JaNear (Jahi) Anderson; two grandchildren: Drason McDaniel and Jayda Anderson; two sisters: Mary Miller and Dorisula (Howard) Hawkins; a sister-in-law, Euela Wooten; brothers-in law: Arties (Joann) Rice, Sam (Ester) Rice, and Clearance Crabtree; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
