Page 25 of the Dore M. Frantz Burials document says that Jacob was born
January 11, 1801 in Augusta County, VA, and died January 1849.
Lowell Beachler's submission on page 77, Volume II, Early Clark County
Families, says thathe was born in Botetourt County, and gives his date
of death as 31 Jan 1894,but this is apparently a transposition of
digits, as Catherine remarried in 1851. Lela Shoup's Annals of the
Donnel's Creek District says on p. 9, "JacobCrist was born January 16,
1801, near Berlin, PA, and being left an orphan at an early
age, he went to live with an aunt and uncle, Jonathan and Barbara (Crist)
Brubaker in Roanoke County, VA." The paragraph continues,
mentioning his marriages, children, and death. Berlin, PA is now in
Somerset Co., but it was in Bedford Co. in 1801. According to Lowell
Beachler, Barbara Crist who married Jonathan Brubaker was the sister, not
the aunt, of this Jacob Crist. She was only 7 years his senior, so Jacob
must not have been extremely young when he went to live with them. His
father died in 1804, and his mother Margaretha Hob did not die until
1840. George Heeter's "Chart ofOhmart Genealogy" has the date for the
marriage of Jacob and Catherine as 10Mar 1826. 1850 census of Clark Co.,
OH, Pike twp, page 131, enumerated 27 Aug, lists this family as #1086:
Catharine Crist, 41, Va; Jacob, 26; John, 20; Adam, 18; Barbara, 14;
Margaret, 11; Samuel, 8; Catharine, 5. There are ditto marks through the
place of birth column for everyone after Catharine, but apparently a
notation of OH for Jacob was omitted.
