CPT Samuel Odell
Birth: 1700 Fordham, Bronx County, New York, USA
Death: 1780 (aged 79Å80) Shenandoah County, Virginia, USA
Burial: Unknown
Memorial #: 182443757
Bio: One of the first Justices for Frederick County, Virginia, 1749. Captain of Foot for Frederick County, 1755-56, under Colonel Thomas Lord Fairfax and Major John Hite, during the French and Indian War. In 1758 Samuel Odell, along with his son-in-law Alexander Mathes, subscribed to George Washington's first successful election to the Virginia House of Burgesses.
He died testate with a will dated October 10, 1779, which was recorded in August, 1780.
Although some claim him to be a son of Lemuel Oldale (d. 1768), I am firmly of the opinion otherwise that he was a grandson of William Odell (1630-c.1697).
Samuel's first wife, and the mother of Grizzell, was Abigail Barton, daughter of Roger Barton and his wife Bridget Palmer of East Chester, New York. Letters of administration were granted to Roger's eldest son Roger and widow Bridget, January 13, 1716.
