1750 and 1751 tax lists for Breknock Township, Lanc. Co, include Samuel as an unmarried laborer with no possessions.

1762 deed was signed by him as a resident of Cumru Township Berks Co.

Taxed there from 1760 to 1770.

A Samuel Overholtz held a tract of 150 acres in neighboring Robeson Twp between 1756-65 abut not sure it's the same man ------

Shenandoah Co, Va Will Bk B p. 39 -- In the name of God Amen, I, Samuel Oberholtzer of Dunmore Co and Colony of Va, being sick at this time but in my perfect sense and memory do constitute and ordain this to be my last will & testament. First and foremost to my beloved wife Eaff I give and bequeath the mare I now have and all the pewter and the two feather beds and the large iron pot and the frying pan. Item, to have a full third part of all moveable estate. Item, to have the liberty and privilege to live and have the use of my plantation, that is, to live on it she keeps all my children with her until the oldest child, a son named Peter, arrives to the age of 21 years and then if she should be yet a widow and as long as she remains a widow, to have yearly the third part of the clear land; further I will that my land and plantation is to be left to my two sons, Peter and Samuel, to be equally divided to them and my two daughters, Barbara & Eaff are to have an equal share with the two boys ina ll my estate land and moveable and further that all my just debts shall be paid. Item: I do constitute and ordain my beloved with Eaff and my beloved friend Casper Hopp to be my executors to this, my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 29th day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy two 1771 -- His Mark -- Samuel S Overholtzer

Samuel DID NOT DIE after making his will. Four more children were born Ann, Veronica (Frany); Jacob and Susannah. Samuel did not live to see any of his children married. He died in 1783 and his will was probated Dec 5, 1783.

An inventory of the estate was made Jan 31, 1784 -- Will Bk -- pg 56 -- The inventory included cows, bull, horse, ten sheep, chest with iron hinges and no lock on it, feathers, big wheel, two axes, grubbing hoe, chest with lock, adze, saw, drawing knife, two beds, pots, pans, stove, table, lamp, dishes and spoons. The following is written at the bottom of the inventory -- a three year old horse appraised but Peter, Overholtser's son, said his father had gave him to him when it was a colt and was much a gainst having him appraised. But, the horse was appraised -- A"and a mare and two cows which were not appraised for the widow says he gave them to her just before he died and had called Old McDirk's wife, a near neighbor to them, as a witness of the same. Said woman says now that she can take her oath that she is a witness to the same.

The children began to marry in 1791 -- when Peter marr. Ann Baughman; Eve marr. John Riser 1794; and Sam. marr. Nancy Eagle 1798. Peter was bondsman for the three younger sisters, Ann marr. Andrew Griner; Veronica (Frany) marr. JohN Durst, Sept 12, 1799; and Susanna married Joseph Folz 1804 (Hist of Shenandoah Co, Va by Wayland).

Sam. O. and Maria Eva Hauswirth were marr. by the Rev. John Waldschmidt, a Mennonite preacher in Cocalico, Lanc. Co Pa Sept 8, 1765. The marr. is recorded in Rev. W's baptismal and marr. records 1751-1786 -- Samuel Overholss, son of late Jacob Overholss, married Maria Eva Hauswirth, da. of late Christian Hauswirth Sept 8, 1765.

The orig. record is in German and an English typescript is in the library at the Lan. Menn. Hist. Libr. Maria Eva was the dau of Christian and Barbara Hauswirth, and came to America with her parents. Christian appears on the list of "foreigners imported in the John and Elizabeth from Amsterdam and Portsmouth." Capt. peter Ham being the ship's captain, "and 330 whole freights being abord the ship, Nov 7, 1754". (Pa. German Pioners - Strassburger-hinke p. 671). The whereabouts of Sam and Maria Eva are unknown for the six years following their marr. But they did leave Pa. and on Nov 4, 1771, Sam. purchased a 215 acre plantation or tract of land, in Frederick Co, Colony of Va (Deed Bk 15 p 154). The land was situated on the "drain of Mill Cree," in the Mt. Jakson area.In 1772 this area became Dunmore Co and in 1777 the county was remaned Shenandoah. Sam. made his will, dated May 29, 1771 and named 4 children: Peter, Barbara, Eva and Samuel. Only the son Samuel could have been born in Va if this family was not in Va. until Sam purch land Nov 5, 1771.
