?George was a Tailor and lived on Unicorn Street, near London Bridge. He came to Newbury in 1640 on the ship Bevis. Alice had come to America from Southhampton with the Dummers on the ship Bevis in 1638. She and her two brothers were servants of the Dummers. The Poore children had been orphaned and were under the guardianship of the Dummers. This information was from a letter written by Chief Justice Samuel Sewall in 1684 to his uncle, Stephan Dummer, then living in Hampshire. The descendants of George Little have formed a Family organization, called George Little Family Association (GLFA) and have met three times during the 1990's at Newburyport MA. where George Little built his home. It is one of the three oldest working farms with original homes in the USA, which is and always has had a Little family living in it. During the reunions the families have always allowed the attendees to tour the homes. they still have and are using some of the utensils and furnishings of George Little. George and his wife Alice are buried in the graveyard adjoining The First Church of Newbury MA.
Bio by Paul Noyes
From "The Descendants of George Little, who came to Newbury, Massachusetts, in 1640" by George Thomas Little, published 1882:
From reliable tradition, George was from Unicorn Street near the London Bridge in England. He came to Newbury in 1640 or soon there after, working for Mr John Woolbridge who advanced his passage money, and helped George procure four acres of upland. In Sept of 1650 he bought freehold rights to John Osgood's land who removed to Andover. He then bought fourteen aces from Nicholas Noyes, ten from Thomas Coleman, and with others, three hundred acres from Stephen Dummer. He was a tailor by trade but like so many others, agriculture was his main event. Though not an educated man, he was remarkable for his strength of mind as well as body. Tradition says he could carry a plough on his shoulder from his home to his farm at Turkey Hill, over three miles away, and that he was exceedingly well versed in scripture. The house which he built in 1679, occupied for the remainder of his life, was taken down in 1851. It stood thirty rods east of the present residence of Deacon Joseph Little.
George and his first wife, Alice Poore, had five children:
* Sarah 1652-1652
* Joseph 1653-1740
* John 1655-1672
* Moses 1657-1691
* Sarah 1661-1724
After Alice died, George married Eleanor Barnard, the widow of Thomas Barnard, on July 19, 1681, but had no children.
