Raymond Edward "R.E." Cleveland Jr., 74 of Austin, Arkansas went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at 9:45 a.m. He passed away peacefully at home.
He was a man of many names. Some called him outlaw - some called him in-law - those closest to him called him husband, father, son and brother. Most of his friends knew him as "R.E".
He made no apologies for the way he lived - even during the toughest times, he supported his family with love, adventure, and humorous stories. He was the hardest working man to live. He would start at sun-up and sometimes go until 10 or 11 p.m. at night. Even when he was hurt or injured, his dedication to his family kept him going. He loved his family and friends with all of his heart - even when he was made at you. There was never a dull moment with his daily adventures to get the job done - from broken down equipment, trees falling on him, and heart problems. No matter what his problems he was always excited to face life with full gusto. With this same gusto, he was able to provide a lifetime of experiences to help us in our growth. He was determined strength. He never gave up on anything or anyone. He was a truck driver, logger, and mechanic, always independent, answering only to God and occasionally his bride, Jo Ann Cleveland. He always had a story to share and made life easier with humor, especially when the times were the hardest for him personally. With his humor, he reminded us daily that we had each other. He reminded us in stories daily that food, friends, and family are worth more than all the riches of the earth. He didn't always know how to deal with a situation, but he showed us that he cared by love, adventure and humor. He was a blessing to family and friends. He was husband, father, son, and brother - this was, and is, the man, R.E. Cleveland.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Myrtle Cleveland; his sons, John Fallon and Dewey "D.D." Bevill.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Cleveland; two sisters, Eunice Jones and Eve Garland; 10 children, James Cleveland, Jerry (Lisa) Cleveland, Amanda Cleveland, Richard (Rebecca) Bevill, Jo Yvonne (Don) Barker, Allene (Jason) Clark, David (Joie) Bevill, Timmy Bevill, Leah Young, and Laura Gail Bevill; 23 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and countless nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2013 at That Church, 602 E. Main, Cabot, AR. Funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. with Russell Stewart officiating. Burial will be at Short Cemetery, Butlerville, Arkansas.
