The longtime Anaheim resident, who came to Orange county from Kansas with his family in 1892, was supervisor of the 3rd district fro m 1941 to 194 8. He was instrumental in establishing sewer districts and set ting up thei rtax structure and in initiating the Carbon Canyon Dam project. James Baker graduated from Anaheim grade schools and attend ed Los Angel esState Normal School, now known as UCLA. H e began his teaching career i n1912 in the Centralia Schoo l District, and later served as principal f orLa Habra an d East Whittier elementary schools. In 1921 he was appoi n tedsuperintendent of the La Habra City School District. From 1927 to 1954, James Baker was president of the Anahei m Cooperative Orange Association and a board member of th e Mutual Orange Distributors of Redlands. He was presiden t of that organization from 1942 to 1954. Mr. Baker also was a former member of the Anaheim Host Lion s, Elks Lodg e1345 and was a past director of the Orange Co unty Farm Bureau. He served as trustee of the Magnolia Sch ool District from 1921 to 1933, and wi ththe Anaheim Unio n High School District from 1938 to 1953. James Baker was a committee chairman for the Orange Count y Hospital from 1941 to 1948. He was also a board member o f the Southern Counties Bank and served as its president fr om 1949 to 1951. He was a member of the Anaheim First Christian Church sinc e 1919, where he was superintendent of the Sunday school an d elder emeritus. The BAKER ranch was located at Ball & Magnolia Avenue - Th e Becker fami lylived on the property 40 acres of oranges, 10 acres Walnut Groves, Cotton Field s in Bakersfie ld.
