{geni:about_me} Edith Latimer can trace her ancestry to several Barons and Lords, including Wido de Reinbudcourt (born about 1040 AD), who was a Doomsday governor under William the Conqueror. While Henry Samson's lines do not connect to any known royalty, there are many Lords, Sheriffs, Governors, and Barons.

# John Greene of Stotfold, Bedfordshire, England (probably died before 1480 and therefore NOT to be identified with "John the Fugitive Greene"
# John Mordaunt, Speaker of the House of Commons (died 1504-1505)
# (arguably) either Sir Thomas or Sir John Carew (but only if '''her''' death date is in error).

The will of Dame Edyth Carewe, widow, of Duntish, Buckland Abbot, Dorset,was dated 1 Jan 1517/18 and proved on 25 Apr 1518, made bequests to her daughters Cecilie Page, Elizabeth Mervyn and Joan Strangways, and appointed Giles Strangways, her son in law, as Executor.[3] [4].

She is said to have married thirdly either Sir Thomas Carew of Devon, slain in 1512, or Sir John Carew, knight (any third husband is unlikely, with a death date matching John Mordaunt's to the year, unless that information is erroneous).

Her maternal grandfather, Sir John Hody, was Lord Chief Justice of England under Henry VI. On her father’s side she descends from five generations of knights, a peer of England (the first Lord Latimer of Corby), and five Domesday tenants-in-chief: Guy de Raimbeaucourt, Walter the Deacon, Walter fitz Other, Alfred of Lincoln, and William Malet (a wealthy landowner and associate of William the Conqueror who died before Domesday but who had two sons who were tenants-in-chief).

Notes for John & Edith (Family)

The ancestry of John Greene has not yet been determined. An interesting clue is the fact that John Greene and Edith Latimer’s grandson John Page included in his coat of arms the arms of the lords of Greene’s Norton, Northampton. This Greene family had a line of descent from Edward I.

It is also not clear just which "John Greene" was her first husband. It cannot have been a long marriage, as her first child by her second husband was (supposedly) born circa 1474. This tells rather strongly against identifying said first husband with John "The Fugitive" Greene.

The descendants of Edith Latimer and John Mordaunt through their eldest son include Prince William and Prince Harry of England through their mother, the late Princess Diana (the former Lady Diana Spencer). These descendants include James Edward Oglethorpe (1696-1785), founder of the U.S. state of Georgia, and, through Oglethorpe’s sister Eleanor (ca. 1684-1775), many continental royal figures, including kings of Italy, a king of Spain, and current members of the Belgian royal family. As a quick orientation, if you scroll to the table of descendants at the bottom of Gary’s column, you will come to generation 10, William Sutton, whose wife, Anne Rodney, is a great-granddaughter of Edith Latimer and John Mordaunt. The aforementioned king of Spain is Amadeo, who ruled from 1870 to 1873; his descent from Carlos III, on his mother’s side, can be traced in the Directory of Royal Genealogical Data (see http://www3.dcs.hull.ac.uk/cgi-bin/gedlkup/n=royal?royal4897 ).
