Darwin Davis Andersen passed away unexpectedly in the early hours of October 16, 2014, at the age of 86. Darwin was born March 30, 1928 to William and Harriet Ann Andersen in Howell, Utah. He was the youngest of 15 children.
Darwin was a lifelong, faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. His church callings over the years included Bishop, High Council member, home teacher, and Sealer in the Boise and Twin Falls temples. The Church brought him much joy and peace throughout his life.
Darwin was a thoughtful, kind, hard-working, and funny husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He had an amazing memory, and could recall almost everyone he met throughout the years. He had a big heart, was kind to all he met, and took care of many people throughout his life.
Darwin attended schools in Howell, Tremonton, and Logan, Utah, and served in the U.S. Army. He then graduated from Utah State University. He later earned a Master's Degree from the College of Idaho. Darwin married Anna Marie Kimball on June 14, 1948 in the Logan Temple – they were happily married for more than 48 years.
While living in Logan, their first daughter Lynne was born. They later moved to Monticello, Utah where Darwin started his teaching and coaching career. This is where their second daughter Jan was born. The family then moved to Firth, Idaho where Kaye, Susan, and Ross were added to the family. Over the next 20 years, the family lived in New Plymouth, Idaho; Orofino, Idaho; Middleton, Idaho; and in 1984, Darwin and Anna Marie moved to Rupert, Idaho, where Darwin was Assistant Superintendent of Minico schools – he had resided there since.
His beloved wife Anna Marie died in 1997 after several years of tender and loving care from Darwin.
He then was lucky to find Luana Richins, a friend from the past, and they were married in 1997. They were married for 17 wonderful years, and enjoyed traveling and spending time with their families.
Darwin is survived by his wife, Luana; his four daughters, Lynne Larsen of Layton, Utah; Jan Kirkham (Gene) of Lehi, Utah; Kaye Katseanes (Tom) of Pocatello, Idaho; Susan Shrader (Alan) of Cedar City, Utah; and one son, D. Ross Andersen of Central Point, Oregon; and 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. He is also survived by Luana's four children: Sheldon Richins of Riverside, Utah; Sherman Richins (Julie Kay) of Riverside, Utah; Anita Godfrey (Max) of Riverside, Utah; and Steve Richins (Julie) of Tremonton, Utah; and 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his first wife Anna Marie, his parents, 14 brothers and sisters, and one grandson, Steven Estes.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at the Rupert 2nd Ward LDS chapel, 25 South 100 West, Rupert, ID. A viewing for family and friends will take place on Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Rupert 2nd Ward LDS Church as well as from 9:00 a.m. until 9:50 am at the church on Saturday morning.
