From Family Search:
According to my information, James Collier was born in County Donegal, Ireland, in 1705, and died in Paxtang, Dauphin County, PA, on 31 March 1788. He and his wife, Susannah Dougan (died 1781) are buried at the Paxtang Presbyterian Church. My family came down through one of his children, John Collier Sr. (1732-1823).
The following story from Ancestry/Roots is also of interest:
From Collier family book by John T. Collier:
James Collier, the immigrant, was a weaver by trade--a most important occupation in those times, but after his marriage to Susanna Doughan, December 28, 1731, they settled on a farm in the vicinity of Harrisburg, Penn., Dauphin County, and from this time on he was a tiller of the soil. Here they reared their family of six children, three boys and three girls, and here they passed the remainder of their days; Susanna passing away August 19th, 1781, aged 74 years, and James Collier following her March 31, 1789, at the ripe age of 84 years, and their mortal remains rest in the church yard of old Paxton Presbyterian Church. Of the six children, the oldest was John Collier, born December 14, 1732. The date of his marriage is not known but as the Registers were from Maryland, it is probable that the marriage was prior to his removal to Randolph County, N.C., which occurred in 1772. Doubltless in company with him went to the south the second sister, Mary Collier, born Mar 14, 1742....Eleanor Collier, the eldest daughter of James and Susanna Collier, born, December 11th 1739.....Thomas Collier the second son in the family of James and Susanna Collier, born April 7, 1734, was not married.....Susanna Collier, the fifth child, was born Septembr 17th, 1749 old style, and died May 18th, 1813....James Collier the sixth child was born April 20th, 1752 (old style) or May 1st, (new style). Sixth child James was 24 at Revolutionary War. All boys were in military and also their sons in law." (James M. Dale, Rootsweb.com
