Ray Floyd Richards, 90, of Panguitch, Utah passed away May 12, 1996, in Panguitch, Utah.
He was born February 2, 1906, in Panguitch, Utah, to Edward and Sarah Owens Richards. Floyd and his father made many of the old red bricks used to build the homes in Panguitch, including the old North Ward Chapel. Making bricks was only one of the many jobs Floyd has held through the years, along with farming, road construction, Forest Service, oil rigs, CCC's (building the bridge over Hell's Backbone) and with Kaibab Industries. He retired from Kaibab in 1975 at the age of 69, after 22 years.He attended the University of Utah. He was drafted into the Army in 1942 at age 36, and served three and a half years during World War II, with two and a half of those years in the South Pacific. He was an avid reader and had a love for sports. He could recall all the professional sports and local teams' championship wins.
Floyd has been a great supporter of his family, and was proud of thier accomplishments. His ability to recite local history and facts has been shared with many people. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by: two sisters-in-law, Ingra Richards, Panguitch; Joy Richards, West Jordan; nephews and niece, Kay Richards, Salt Lake City; Ned Richards, Panguitch; Richard Miller, Panguitch; Edward Miller, Prescott, Ariz.; Kenneth Miller, Panguitch; Jimmy Richards, West Jordan; Pat Gledhill, West Valley; preceded in death by parents, six brothers and one sister.
