Richard Anderson died some time after 1635. The last record of his existence is from the ship's passage listed below. We don't know when he died.

20 Dec 1611 Richard Anderson, of Watford, co. Herts, Yeoman, Bachelor, son of John Anderson, of same, Yeoman, & Elizabeth Hawkins, of same, Spinster, dau. of William Hawkins, late of Waxham, co. No doubt this memorial page will be unpopular among my family members who list Sir Edward Anderson as Richard's father. However, Richard and Elizabeth's marriage record states his father is John Anderson of Watford, Hertfordshire, England. I've been unable to prove Sir Edward's son Richard ever married our Elizabeth Hawkins. Until I'm convinced otherwise, I have to assume our Richard was a son of John Anderson.

Richard Anderson, Sr. (born 1585) departed from the Port of London, on the ship "Merchant's Hope," on July 31, 1635. (Ref. Hotten's List of Emigrants to America, 1600-1700). His son, Richard Anderson, Jr. embarked for Virginia on an earlier voyage, July 4, 1635, aboard the ship "Transport." They are both listed in Hotten's "The Original lists of Persons of Quality" under this heading, "Register of the names of all ye passinger wch passed from ye Port of London for on whole yeare endinge at Xmas 1635:"
His sons, John and Thomas, remained in England.

Father and son settled in Gloucester county, Virginia. Unfortunately all of Gloucester County's colonial records burned in an 1820 county courthouse fire and were burned again in the Civil War at Richmond, Virginia. Without evidence from the Gloucester County Court records to connect them we will probably never be able to document these individuals or establish proof of their relationships. Several Anderson family descendents are using DNA technology, and one day we will be able to confirm/deny our family relationships.

Richard is my 11th great grandfather.

Richard ANDERSON Sr. was born in 1582 in England. He died in Hanover Co., VA.
Followed his son to the colonies on July 1 (presumably 1636) at age 53.

Family is said to have originated in Scotland and apprears later in Northumberland, Co., England where Sir Edmund Anderson is found, as Chief Justice -- From Americans of Gentle Birth by Mrs. H.D. Pitman of St. Louis Mo.

He had the following children:
