Bozeman Daily Chronicle (MT) - November 1, 2006
Deceased Name: GERTRUDE "GERDIE" M. KUIPERS
Gertrude (Gerdie) M. Kuipers passed into eternity Sunday morning, Oct. 29, 2006, at her home in The Century Village, Manhattan. She was born March 6, 1917, in Wilsall to Nick and Marie Nap. The family later moved to the Gallatin Valley.
On Nov. 18, 1941, she married John Kuipers. They lived on the family farm in the dryland hills south of Manhattan where they farmed for many years. Here they raised their six children. They later became involved in logging and eventually sold the farm to their son, Don. They then moved to the Dillon area for a few years before retiring back to Manhattan. During this time, they spent several winters in Yuma, Ariz.
Gramma K, as she was tenderly called by her grandchildren, took pleasure in taking each one to stay for a week in the various logging camps during the summer. She also enjoyed crocheting baby blankets and nurturing her beloved pets.
Gerdie was preceded in death by her parents, Nick and Marie Nap; a brother, Herman Nap; son, Don Kuipers; granddaughter, Annette Joy Kuipers; and a great-granddaughter, Angela Annette Kuipers-Taddicken. She is survived by her husband, John of Manhattan; brother, Jack (Anne) Nap of Payson, Ariz.; son, Stan (Naomi) of Lewistown; daughter-in-law, Sharyn of Manhattan; daughter, Susan (Sonny) Soprepena of Townsend; daughter, Judy (Bill) Oyler of Manhattan; son, Dennis Kuipers of Helena; and daughter, Terilyn Carlson of Belgrade; as well as her precious grandchildren, great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She also leaves behind her beloved cat, Mille.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, at Dokken-Nelson Funeral Home. Interment in Meadow View Cemetery. A reception with finger foods will be held at Century Village in Manhattan following the graveside service. Visitation hours noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Dokken-Nelson.
Memorials may be sent to the Don Kuipers Memorial Fund at Manhattan High School, 416 N. Broadway, Manhattan, MT 59741; or to Bozeman Deaconess Hospice, 931 Highland Blvd. Suite 3200, Bozeman 59715.
