Also mentioned in 'A Copy of the Poll for Knights of the Shire' for the County of Hertford, Taken at the Town of Hertford, May 2 1734, Roger Tuack Esq, High Sheriff. 1734 LAST WILL & TESTAMENT of Thomas Wiltshire 45hw58 The last Will and Testament of Thomas Wiltshire of Pirton in the County of Hertford Carpenter. In the first place I give and devise unto MY NEPHEW JOHN WILTSHIRE of Sandy in the County of Bedford Carpenter All that ……messuage or tenement with the appurtenances situate standing and being in Pirton aforesaid and also all those eight acres of ffreehold arrable land be the same more or less lying in te several ffields of Pirton aforesaid which I lately purchased of Joseph Halstead late of Baldock in the County of Hertford aforesaid and which are now in the occupation of George Hobbs together with all outhouses edifices buildings barns stables orchards yards gardens hedges ditches wood fforest commons ways waters easements profits commodities and appurtenances whatsoever to the said messuage or tenement arrable land and premisses belonging or in any wise appertaining To hold the said messuage or tenement lands and premisses with the appurtenances unto the said John Wiltshire and to his heirs and assignes forever I likewise give and devise unto my said Nephew John Wiltshire one close of pasture ground called or known by the name of Linseys and situate in Pirton aforesaid And also all those five acres and three roods of customary or coppyhold arrable land by the same more or less lying and being in the parish and ffields of Pirton aforesaid with in the manor of the Rectory of Pirton in the County of Hertford which I also purchased of the said Joseph Halstead To hold the said close pasture ground arrable land and …………with every of their rights meadows appendants and appurtenances unto the said John Wiltshire my nephew and to his heirs and assignes for ever I likewise give and devise unto MY NEPHEW THOMAS WILTSHIRE of Pirton aforesaid Carpenter all that messuage cottage or tenement situate and being in Pirton aforesaid and in my own possession And also all those five acres more or less of ffreehold arrable land late Stephen Constables lying and being in the parish and Field of Pirton aforesaid And also one acre more or less of customary arrable land late John Boals lying in the parish of Pirton aforesaid and with in the manor of Pirton in the County of Hertford And also all those two acres more or less of customary arrable land late Jonathan Woodleys lyin in the parish of Pirton aforesaid and within the manor of the Rectory of Pirton aforesaid and also all that half acre more or less of customary arrable land late John Turners lying in the parish of Pirton aforesaid and within the manor of Pirton Doddingsells in the County of Hertford aforesaid And also all that customary close of pasture ground with the appurtenantces called or known by the name of Wiltshires scituate lying and being in the parish of Pirton aforesaid and within the several manors of the Rectory of Pirton aforesaid and Rammorich in the County of Hertford aforesaid together with all outhouses edifices buildings barns stables orchards yards gardens hedges ditches wood fforest common ways waters easements proffits commodities and appurtenances to the said messuage cottage or tenement arrable lands pasture ground and premisses belonging or in any wise appertaining To hold the said messuage cottage or tenement arrable lands pasture ground and premisses with the appurtenances unto my said nephew Thomas Wiltshire and to his heirs and assignes for ever of which coppyhold premisses I have in Several surrenders to them of this my will I give and bequeath unto MY SISTER ELIZABETH the now WIFE OF THOMAS HOWE of Lilley in the County of Hertford aforesaid the sum of ffifty pounds of lawfull money of Great Brittain to be paid to her also unto MY NEPHEW JOSEPH HOWE son of the said Thomas Howe the sum of ffifty pounds of like lawfull money to be paid to him by my executor hereafter named within twelve months next after my decease I give and bequeath unto MY NEPHEW WILLIAM HOWE one other of the sons of the said Thomas Howe the sum of ten pounds of like lawfull money to be paid to him by my Executrix hereafter named within twelve months next after my decease I give and bequeath also unto MY NIECE SARAH HOWE one of the daughters of the said Thomas Howe the sum of twenty pounds of like money to be paid to her by my executor hereafter named within twelve months next after my decease I give and bequeath unto MY BROTHER [in law] THOMAS TARRYER of Ickleford in the County of Hertford aforesaid Carpenter the sum of twenty pounds of like lawfull money to be paid to him by my executor hereafter named within twelve months next after my decease I also give and bequeath unto MY SISTER MARY the now WIFE of THOMAS COTTON the sum of twenty pounds of like lawfull money to be paid to her by my executor hereafter named with in twelve months next after my decease I also give and bequeath unto MY NIECE ELIZABETH the now WIFE of JOHN CAWDELL of Hollwell in the County of Bedford the sum of one hundred pounds of like lawfull money to be paid to her by my executor hereafter named within one month next after my decease I also give and bequeath unto three other of MY BROTHER JOHN WILTSHIRES CHILDREN namely JANE HONORE WIFE of GEORGE HOBBS, EDWARD WILTSHIRE and ALICE WILTSHIRE the sum of ffifty pounds apiece to be paid to them respectively within twelve months next after my decease I give and bequeath also …….NEPHEWS JOHN WILTSHIRE, THOMAS WILTSHIRE and JOSEPH HOWE all my working tools to be equally divided between them All the rest and residue of my personal Estate Goods Chattels and Credits whatsoever (my debts and ffuneral expences being thereout first paid and discharged I give and bequeath unto my said NEPHEW JOHN WILTSHIRE whom I do hereby nominate and appoynt sole executor of this my will and revoking all former wills by me made I declare this to being my last will and testament In witness whereof I the said Thomas Wiltshire to this my last will and testament (being contained in two sheets of paper) have set my hand and seal this eighth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and thirty four. Tho[mas] Wiltshire [Seal] Signed published and declared to be the last will and testament of the said Thomas Wiltshire ….in the presence of us who have subscribed our names as witnesses to the same at the request and ……of the said Testator. ……..Goodale [other names off the page] A codicil to be annext to and taken as part of the last will and testament of mr Thomas Wiltshire of Pirton in the County of Hertford Carpenter bearing date the eighth day of this instant June and in the year of Our Lord One Thousand Seven hundred and thirty four Whereas in and by my said will I have given and bequeathed unto MY NIECE ELIZABETH the now WIFE of JOHN CAWDELL of Hollwell in the County of Bedford the sum of one hundred pounds of lawfull money of Great Brittain to be paid to her by my Executor with in one moneth next after my decease. Now I do by this Codicil revoke and utterly make void the said gift bequest or legacy of one hundred pounds by my said will given or bequeathed unto my said niece Elizabeth Cawdell and every part thereof I likewise do hereby order and will that whatsoever sum of money the Inventory of my Goods Chattells and Credits shall amount to over and above the sum of one hundred pounds that such overplus shall be divided into five equal shares or parts and paid by my executor into the several hands of my niece Jane the now wife of George Hobbs To my nephews Thomas Wiltshire and Joseph Howe And to my nieces Alice Wiltshire and Sarah Howe share and share alike anythin in my said will contained to the contrary thereof in any wise notwithstanding and I do hereby ratify and conirm my said will in every other part save in such parts thereof as are revoked or altered by this my codicil In witness whereof I the said Thomas Wiltshire have to this my ………..Codicil set my hand and seal this fourth day of June in the seventh year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the second by the Grace of God of Great Britain Ffrance and Ireland King Defender of the Faith and so forth and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and thirty four.
