In the name of God Amen I Edward Sheppard of Pirton in the county of Hertford husbandman being ill of body but of perfect memory blessed be God for the same therefore doe make this my last will and testament as followeth first I commend my soule into the hands of Allmighty God my maker hopeing by the sole merritt of Jesus Christ my only saviour and redeemer to have all my sinnes remitted and to be made of favor of eternall life for my body I comitt to the earth whereof it was made to {be} buried in such seemly sorte as my executrix hereafter named shall '85'85see fitt As for that worldly estate which it hath pleased God to bless me withall I dispose thereof as followeth Imprimis I give and devise unto William Sheppard my sonne and to his heires and assignes for ever All those my three roods of arrable land with the appurtenances situate and being in Pirton aforesaid holden of the manor of Pirton Doddingsells in the county of Hertford aforesaid by Coppy of Court Roll which said three roods of Land I lately bought and purchased of one Thomas Sex of which '85'85'85I have lately made a surrender thereof to the '85of my will Item I give and devise unto Susan my loveing wife for and during the terme of her naturall life All that my room called the Kitchin and the chamber over the same belonging to the messuage or tenement in Pirton aforesaid where I doe nowe dwell and after her decease then I give and devise the said kitchin and chamber over the same together with the other part of my messuage or tenement aforesaid with the appurtenances in Pirton aforesaid now in my owne occupacon to John Sheppard my sonne which said messuage or tenement I lately purchased of one Michaell Samm now deceased (to have and to hold unto the said John Sheppard my sonne and to the heirs of his body Lawfully begotten or to bee begotten And for default of such'85..then I give and devise the said messuage or tenement with the appurtenances unto the said William Sheppard my sonne and to his heires and assignes forever Item all the rest and residue of my personall estate goods and chattells whatsoever unbequeathed my detts first paide and funerall discharged I give and devise unto the said Susann my loveing wife whome I doe make constitue ordaigne and appoint sole executrix of this my last will and testament revoaking all former wills heretofore by me made In witness whereof I the said Edward Sheppard have hereunto sett my hand and seale to this my will contayned in one sheet of paper this seaven and twentieth day of September Anno Domini 1703 and in the second yeare of the reigne of our Sovereign Lady Anne by the grace of God Queen of England Scottland Ffrance and Ireland defender of the faith Signed Edward Sheppard Signed '85'85published and delivered etc in the presence of the said Edward Sheppard (too dark to read - names mentioned - William Hanscombe, John Ffarmer , John Sheppard)
