Arrested in 1655 in connection with the Salisbury Insurrection. Eldest son of John Argall. Suffered in Stuart times having sacrificed his possessions for the King in the Civil War. 6 - 1st series lxxxiv 323, 325, 327; 2nd series xxxvii 293 - 297.

On 31 March 1649, Thomas Argall of Much Baddow, Essex, was named by the Committee for Compounding for delinquency, in being in Colchester in the last Essex insurrection (i.e. Civil War). On 1 May 1649. a Fine at 1/6 - £1415; to be reduced to £715 on his settling out of Walthamstow Recory £40 on that minister, and £30 on the minister of Low Leyton. On 11 May Trustees were appointed for the said settlement. On 13 June, An order was made that if he paid £450 before 1 September, his estate be discharged and his goods restored, he proving that his estate is as he has given it in. On 16 October Order that a letter be sent to him to pay the money.
30 Nov 1654. His name being inserted in the list of fines unpaid, and he moving that it be taken out, he has 20 days to produce his discharge by the County Committee for delinquency in June 1649.
31 Jan 1655. He produces a discharge from sequestration by the County Committee of 5 Oct 1649, as ordered. 31 Jan He is to bring a true copy of the particular on which he compunded in Essex, and if it be the same on which his fine is set, he is to be discharged, and his name taken out of the list of unpaid fines.
2 Oct 1656. The petition of Thos. Argall, and a certificate that a process was issued out of the Exchequer against his estate in Essex, although the same had been discharged from sequestration, read in Council.

Q/SO 1, includes: It is ordered by this Courte that the whole matter in difference between all the said p[ar]ties bee refferred to S[i]r Henry Appleton Barr[one]t, S[i]r Gobert Barrington kn[igh]t & Thomas Argall Esq[uire], Three of his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the Peace of this County,....
1662 Hearth Tax, he is listed as the owner of 14 hearths, and living at Great Baddow.
1669 Was a Justice of the Peace for Essex.
Death is listed in 1669 listed in Musgrave's Obituary. Burial is recorded in Great Baddow Parish registers as 'Mer. Argall' (ie. Mr. or Master). Death is assumed to have occurred 2 days earlier.
