Notities over RICHARD SKINGLE

This may not be the correct Richard Skingle as there is a burial for "Richard, son of John Skingle" on the 29th March 1696 at St Mary the Virgin, Walthamstow.

1765 indenture of 25 March 1765 between Sir WILLIAM MAYNARD of Waltons in the county of Essex, baronet, and RICHARD SKINGLE of Walthamstow, yeoman. Sir William Maynard demises, etc to Richard Skingle those two cottages in Blakhouse Lane in Walthamstow adjoining to the lane leading down to Hellyer's Ferry, now in the tenure and occupation of the Widow CHESHYRE and JOHN BUTCHER with appurtenances for 61 years at a yearly rent of three pounds three shillings payable quarterly, he to repair and maintain etc.

LAST WILL & TESTAMENT of RICHARD SKINGLE IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN
This is the last Will and Testament of Mr RICHARD SKINGLE of Walthamstow in the County of Essex yeoman I desire to have decent Christian burial in the grave with my late loving wife in a plain elm coffin and to have an hearse and a coach and a pair of horses to take me up to the Church and my two daughters follow me to the Ground and I will that all the just debts which I shall owe at the time of my decease be in the first place paid and satisfied and whereas I am seized of several messuages lands tenements and hereditaments in Walthamstow being copyhold of Walthamstow to my alias [Hugh Hall?] and which I have surrendered to the use of my Will and also possessed of a Leasehold Estate held under Charles Lord Viscount MAYNARD in Walthamstow aforesaid and of other personal estate then

I do hereby give and devise unto GEORGE CANNON of Walthamstow aforesaid Bricklayer his heirs and assigns all that Copyhold messuage or tenement and premises in Walthamstow aforesaid whereof I have with licence from the Lord of the said manor let a lease to ELEANOR SHORT widow for twenty one years from Lady Day one thousand seven hundred and seventy seven at the yearly rent of thirty pounds

In Trust to pay one third part of the due yearly rent of the said messuage or tenement and premises to my daughter ELIZABETH SKINGLE and her assigns for her natural life paying the value thereof to her weekly and after her decease to pay one moiety of such one third part thereof to my grandson WILLIAM GILBERT and the other moiety thereof equally between my grandchildren RICHARD KIRBY and ANN KIRBY and also to pay one third part of the whole of the said yearly rent of thirty pounds to my grandson WILLIAM GILBERT and the remaining third part thereof to my said grandson and granddaughter RICHARD and ANN KIRBY when and as they the said WILLIAM GILBERT and RICHARD and ANN KIRBY shall respectively attain the age of twenty one years with benefit of survivorship among my said grandchildren and in case of the death of any or other of them before they shall respectively attain the age of twenty one years such rents to be from time to time paid by the said GEORGE CANNON and his heirs as he or they shall receive the same to DANIEL KEMP and EDWARD SHORT of Walthamstow aforesaid gentleman to be invested by them in some of the public ffunds for the benefit of my said grandchildren or applied in the placing them out apprentice in the proportions before mentioned and upon further trust after the death of my said daughter ELIZABETH (in case she shall survive the expiration of the said Lease for the term of twenty one years as aforesaid and not otherwise to sell and dispose of the said messuage or tenementand premises by public auction

And I will and direct that the receipt of my Trustee GEORGE CANNON or his heirs shall be or sufficient to the purchase thereof and my will and meaning is that in case of expiration of thesaid Lease that then I will that the said messuage or tenement and premises shall not be sold before the expiration of the said term of twenty one years so granted as aforesaid but immediately after the expiration of the said term my said daughter ELIZABETH being dead whenever then happening I Will and direct this lease to be sold and the money received and paid to my said grandchildren in hereunto before mentioned the same if any of them dying in the meaning time to stand and or considered and take the share of his and or their deceased parent or parents the benefit of survivorship among them before mentioned notwithstanding

I also give and devise to my daughter JOANNA SKINGLE my three copyhold tenements with the appurtenances on the ffirest in the said parish of Walthamstow now in the occupation of JOSEPH WEBSTER RICHARD RINGWOOD and THOMAS POWELL for her natural life and my Will is that after her decease the same shall be sold by the said GEORGE CANNON his heirs executors or administrators at public auction and the moneys arising thereby to be paid to the said JOHN CANNON his heirs executors or administrators whose receipt or receipts for the same shall be a sufficient discharge or discharges to the purchaser or purchasers thereof and when received shall be invested in some or one of the public ffunds in the ......... of the said DANIEL KEMP and EDWARD SHORT and by him paid and applied in equall shares and proportions unto and among all the children of my said daughter JOHANNA either in bearing them out apportioned or when and as they respectively arrive at the age of twenty one years but if one or more of them dying before such age to survive to the other or others of them

I also give to the said DANIEL KEMP and EDWARD SHORT the sum of two hundred and fifty pounds three percent consols drafts annuities now standing in my drawe in trust to apply the dividends thereof towards the education of my grandchildren MARY ANN SKINGLE and WILLIAM KIRBY and when and as they and my other grandchildren JOHN THOMAS BENJAMIN and EDWARD SKINGLE shall respectively arrive at the age of twenty one years to sell or transfer a proportionable part of the said annuities and pay the product thereof to my said six grandchildren in equal proportions the share of any of them dying before such age to go and be paid to the survivors of their share and share alike

I also give and bequeath my leasehold tenements in Clay Street in Walthamstow aforesaid and all the residue and rest of my personal estate whatsoever unto the said GEORGE CANNON his executors and administrators In Trust to sell and dispose of the same and thereout to pay the ffines and ffees on the Admission of himself and my said daughter JOHANNA to my said copyhold estate and subject thereto to the costs and charges which my said trustees and executors shall be put to in the execution of this my will as such ordinary and extraordinary and to the payment of all my debts in trust for my said dauter JOHANNAH SKINGLE paying to my said daughter ELIZABETH SKINGLE five pounds and to my said grandson RICHARD KIRBY granddaughter ANN KIRBY grandson RICHARD SKINGLE five pounds apiece when they shall respectively arrive at the age of twenty one years with benefit of survivorship equally between them and to my son in law JAMES GILBERT five pounds

I also give to my son in law WILLIAM KIRBY my best suit of cloathes and to my son in law JOHN SKINGLE all the remainder of my wearing apparel and to my grandson JOHN SKINGLE my ......

And lastly I do hereby make and appoint the said GEORGE CANNON sole executor of this my last Will and Testament and give him the sum of five guineas for his care in the execution thereof whereby revoking all former wills by me at any time heretofore and declaring this and this only with such codicil or codicils as I shall at any time hereafter make thereto to be my last Will and Testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this third day of March one thousand seven hundred and seventy seven - RICHARD SKINGLE [signed]

Signed sealed published and declared as and for the last Will and Testament of the testator RICHARD SKINGLE in the presence of us who in his presence and at his request and in the presence of each other of us have subscribed our names as witnesses thereto JOS EYRE Christs Hospital London JOSEPH EYRE junior Vicar of Walthamstow.

Whereas I have by my within written will given unto the therein named GEORGE CANNON and his heirs my copyhold messuage or tenement in Walthamstow in Lease to ELEANOR SHORT in trust giving others to pay out third part of the yearly rent to my daughter ELIZABETH SKINGLE and her assigns for her natural life paying the value thereof to her now I do hereby revoke so much of my said Will and instead thereof do hereby give such third part of such Yearly rent unto JOSEPH ANDREWS of Walthamsto gardner in case he shall marry my said daughter ELIZABETH for his life and from and after his decease to my said daughter ELIZABETH for her life and from and after the decease of the survivor of them to go and as in my said Will is directed to be paid and I hereby direct my said trustee GEORGE CANNON and his heirs to pay the same accordingly and whereas by certain Marriage .. bearing contract herewith and made between the said JOSEPH ANDREWS of the one part and myself and the said ELIZABETH SKINGLE of the other part the said JOSEPH ANDREWS covenanted with me to surrender his Copyhold Estate therein particularly mentioned and held of the said manor of Walthamstow ... High Hall to the use of himself for life and after his decease to the use of the said ELIZABETH SKINGLE his future wife for life and after her death to the use of the heirs of the body of the said JOSEPH ANDREWS by the said ELIZABETH and for want of such then to the use of me my heirs and assigns forever

Now I do hereby give and devise unto the said GEORGE CANNON his heirs executors and administrator all other my reversion of the Estate of the said JOSEPH ANDREWS so covenanted to be surrendered to me as aforesaid and all the rest and residue of my Estate and Effects whatsoever In trust to sell the same and the money arising by sale thereof to dispose of among my said six grandchildren to whom I have by my Will given my Bank Annuity to be paid to them in such proportions and at such times with benefit of such survivorship as I have directed containing the said annuities and I will that my said Trustee GEORGE CANNON and his heirs executors and administrators shall deduct and retain all such costs charges and expenses which he or they shall be put to in the execution of this my Will or the trusts thereof

and I do hereby declare this to be a codicil to my last Will and Testament and in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this thirteenth day of December one thousand seven hundred and seventy seven.
RICHARD SKINGLE signed Witness JOSEPH EYRE signed15th December 1777 On which day appeared personally ROBERT DIXON of the Parish of Saint Botolph Aldgate in the County of Middlesex taylor and by Intent of his Corporal Oath deposed that he know and was well acquainted with RICHARD SKINGLE late of Walthamstow in the County of Essex deceased and hath often seen him write and subscribe his name whereby he became well acquainted with his manner and character of handwriting and subscription and having now carefully viewed the name RICHARD SKINGLE set and subscribed to the Codicil bearing date the thirteenth of December one thousand seven hundred and seventy seven hereunto annexed doth say that he verily and in his conscience believes the said name RICHARD SKINGLE set and subscribed to the said codicil were wrote and subscribed by and with the proper hand of the said RICHARD SKING deceased. THIS WILL was proved at London with a codicil the seventeenth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy seven before the worshipful ANDREW COLTON DUCAREL Doctor of Laws and surrogate of the Right Worshipful SIR GEORGE DAY Knight also Doctor of Law Rector or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the Oath of GEORGE CANNON the sole executor named in the said Will to whom Administration was granted of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the deceased having been first sworn duly to administer.
