Notities over HUGH du PLESSIS I

He was aged 24-26 at his father's death. In Jul 1273, he went to France to meet King Edward on his return from the Holy Land, and was summoned for service in Wales in 1277 and 1282. He was a benefactor of Sandford Abbey and the hospitals of St. John and St. Bartholomew in Oxfordshire.

He was married firstly, as a child, before Oct 1249, to Isabel, third and youngest daughter and coheir of John Biset, by his wife Alice Basset. By this marriage he obtained the manor of Headington and property in Wich Malbank, Cheshire. The date of Isabel's death is uncertain, but he married secondly, in or before Jan 1278/79, Joan, widow of John de Soleham, daughter of Hugh de Hoyvill. Hugh died shortly before 7 Jul 1292.
