Son of William Latimer, the 1st Baron Latimer of Corby and Alice Ledet of Corby, born at Danby Manor, Scrampton, Malton, North Yorkshire. Grandson of Sir William Latimer, Sheriff Yorkshire and Walter Ledet. His father fought at the Battle of Sterling, Battle of Falkirk and the Siege of Caerlaverock. He was born circa 1276
William married Lucy Thwang, daughter and heiress to Sir Roger Thwang. They had two sons:

* Thomas
William and Lucy divorced by July of 1312, and William married Sibyl Fourneaux, the daughter of Sir Richard.
William succeeded to the title of Baron on 06 Feb 1299, and his father received his summons a year after, also as ist Baron. He then was recorded as the 2nd Lord Latimer 05 Dec 1304.
William fought at the Battle of Bannockburn 24 June 1314 where he was taken prisoner and held for ransom for eight months. He was one of the principal commanders at the battle of Boroughbridge, York, against his cousin, Thomas, Earl of Lancaster, was defeated. In 1322 he was made Keeper of governor of York, and was involved in peace negotiations with Scotland in 1324.
