1758 John & Elizabeth Cronk of Sundridge were granted right of Settlement in Brasted.
John was mentioned in John Cogger's Will of 1766 as owing a debt of 200 guineas, which debt to be repaid to John's brother William. He is mentioned as being of Old Berry Hill in the parish of Ightham.
He also mentioned two brothers in law, John & William Diblock of Mayfield, Sussex. A codicil also mentions late brother Richard, sister Margaret (wife of Richard Boaks), 4 sons of sister Ann by Thomas Tyrell of Maidstone. Main legatee, son John, still under age.
According to Simon Ranger Hill there is a pamphlet on the Cronk family in the Sevenoaks Library Archives for a branch deriving from Michael Cronk, Tailor of Sevenoaks, who died in 1607. His Great Grandson, William, purchased and occupied lands in Seal (for which deeds were "in Sevenoaks Museum") which he bequeathed to his 3 sons, William, John and Richard - the latter 2 relinquishing their rights to their brother William in 1744. Simon thinks that this John is the one who married Elizabeth Cogger. "........It has also occurred to me that our John Cronk was "of Oldbury Hill" - I hadn't remembered that when I was walking there! He obviously didn't live on the Hill, but I wonder if Oldbury Hall was his? It looked all too clean and tarted up to be interesting enough to take a photo of - if it was his, he must have been well off, since it is a large house......."
