Edward le Despencer, 1st Baron le Despencer, KG (also called Despenser; c. 24 March 1335 or 1336 - 11 November 1375) was the son of another Edward le Despenser and Anne Ferrers, sister of Henry, Lord Ferrers of Groby. He succeeded as Lord of Glamorgan in 1349.

Le Despencer went with Edward the Black Prince to France, and was present at the Battle of Poitiers. In recognition of his conduct in the French wars, he was summoned to Parliament as a baron in 1357. At the same time, he also became a Knight of the Garter.

He was a friend and patron of Jean Froissart and the eldest brother of Henry le Despenser, Bishop of Norwich.

There is a statue of him on the top of the Holy Trinity Chantry Chapel in Tewkesbury Abbey, renowned as the "KNEELING KNIGHT".

Edward married Elizabeth de Burghersh, daughter of Bartholomew de Burghersh, 2nd Baron Burghersh. They had the following children:

Edward campaigned with Prince Edward in Gascony in 1355 and he fought in the skirmish at Romorantin and at the battle of Poitiers 1356. Edward Summoned to Parliament as Lord Despencer 15 December 1357. Edward took part in the expedition to France in 1359 in the staff of Edward III. He swore to uphold the Treaty of Brétigny at Calais. In 1363 he escorted the king of Cyprus from Dover to London. Jean Froissart accompanied Edward to the Welsh Marches in 1366. In 1368 Edward was in the retinue of the Duke of Clarence and was there when he died at Piedmont. In 1369, with the death of his father in law, the Manor of Henley passed to him and his wife. Edward returned from Italy in 1372 and in 1373 campaigned under John of Gaunt, and the Duke of Brittany in 1373, ravaging Artois and Picardy, and was in command of the rear-guard.After the truce in 1374 Edward returned to England. Edward made his will on 6 November 1375 and died 11 November 1375 An effigy was made of him in Tewksbury Abbey, and he bequested a chalice to the abbey which had been given to him by the king of France. Edward was described as the most honourable, gallant and valiant knight of all England, much beloved by the ladies.

Born at Essendine, Rutland, he accompanied the Prince of Wales to Gascony in Sep 1355, and was at the battle of Poitiers, being then a Knight. He had livery of his uncle's lands 26 Mar 1357, his homage being respited as he was still in Gascony with Prince Edward. He was summoned to Parliament from 15 Dec 1357 to 6 Oct 1372, whereby he became Lord le Despenser. On 6 Jul 1359 the King took his homage and he had livery of the lands of Elizabeth, late the wife of his uncle. He was with the King at his invasion of France in Oct 1359-60, and was nominated a Knight of the Garter in 1361. Accompanying the Duke of Clarence to Milan in 1368, he took part in the war at Lombardy, returning to England in Aug of 1372. He served as Constable of the Army in the Duke of Lancaster's unsuccessful expedition to France in 1373-74, and assisted the Duke of Brittany in his campaign in that province in 1375. He was aged 39 at his death.
