Notities over Richard COTTON

Richard Cotton of Combermere, Cheshire, Esq was the eldest son and heir of Sir George Cotton and his wife Mary Onley. He was born on 22 Aug 1539; not quite of age at the death of his mother, 14 Mar 1559/0.

On 6 Jan 1559/0 he married (1st) Mary Mainwaring, daughter of Sir Arthur Mainwaring of Ightfield, Shropshire, and his wife Margaret Mainwaring, daughter and co-heiress of Sir Randall Mainwaring of Over Peover. They had 1 son and 4 daughters, including:
George Esq.
Mary, wife of Ralph Bulkeley Esq
Frances, wife of George Abell Esq.

On 14 June 1578 at St Olave's, Southwark, he married (2nd) Jane Seyliard, daughter of William Seyliard of London, gent, merchant tailor, and his wife Joan Todd. They had 1 daughter:

Richard's wife Jane was living 22 Sep 1593, but dead by 20 Feb 1603/4. He married (3rd) Philipe _____, widow of John Dormer of Buckinghamshire, with no known issue.

In 1598 he granted a debt to "my two natural sons Arthur and Andrew".

He died intestate on 14 June 1602 at Stoke, Warwickshire, England. He left a widow who left a will.
