Sir John Macdougall, 5th of Dunollie and of Lorn was the son of Sir Alexander Macdougall, 4th of Dunollie and of Lorn and Julienne Comyn. He died circa 1317.
Sir John Macdougall, 5th of Dunollie and of Lorn also went by the nick-name of Ian 'Bacach' (or in English, Lame John). In 1291 he swore fealty to King Edward I. In 1306 he defeated King Robert I at Dalree and won from him his brooch, now known as the ‘Brooch of Lorn.' He held the office of Admiral of the English Fleet in the Western Seas from 1314 to 1315, to King Edward II. In 1315 he captured the Isle of Man.
