Subject: RE: Howells/Powell Wales
Message: I have Howells and Powells who left Breconshire, Wales in the early 1800's and came to the US and to OHIO then some of mine came on to Kansas. In abt. 1830 or 40 the father went back to Wales and disposed of some property. They were originally merchants in the weaving business. Evidently came to the US with money, however my side evidently squandered the money...because they were definitely not the usual pioneers, they had a "carriage" which they traveled with which evidently was quite a sight in the frontier, the children remembered playing in it when they were young...the Howells would be W.C. Howells was a clock and watch maker...one clock still in the family reads George Howells, Dearfold. Thomas Howells was born in county of Radnor, Wales went to London and met Susannah Beesley. After they md. they removed to Hay where they engaged in the manufacture of Welsh flannels. I think there is a strong possibility that one of these folks, probably the wife, was Quaker.
Any help with this family would be appreciated. Sherrie Perkins
