John was named after Cap. John Seehorn of TN. In the spring of 1841, along with several other families, John and his family emigrated to Harrison Co., Missouri. There was a long train of covered wagos and over 100 cattle. It took them 4 weeks. In 1841 Elder Allen organized the Christian Church of Harrison Co. and was preacher for many years. He organized Christian Churches all over NW Missouri. In 1845 the county of Harrison was organized and a quarter section of the land entered in the name of John S. Allen for county seat purposes. He was appointed to lay off the land an sell the lots. He was also appointed commissioner to build a Courthouse. In 1861 he was a delegate to the State Convention to determine whether Missouri would stay in the Union. Although John was a southerner, he exerted all his influence for the Union.
