In 1863, William and Christina (Engels) Timmermans left the Netherlands for the United States. Their son Mathias, his wife Anna Maria, and son William also emigrated that year, and it seems likely they all came to the United States together. They settled in Menominee Township, Jo Daviess County, Illinois, where William and Christina's son Simon had previously settled.
In 1870, William and Christina Timmerman were living at Menominee: William was 76 years old, and Christina was 70 and keeping house, according to that year's census. The next two households in the census were those of their sons, Mathias and Simon.
