Mary Billington
A Mass will be celebrated at 12:15 p.m. July 27 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Eugene for Mary Louise Billington of Eugene, who died June 16 of age-related causes. She was 91. A reception will follow the service, and a celebration of life is planned for later.
She was born Oct. 2, 1920, in Mount Angel to Fred and Antonia Back Hassing. She married Jack Billington on Sept. 6, 1952, in Albuquerque, N.M. He died April 27, 1987.
She graduated from Mount Angel Academy High School and received a business school degree. She also was a "Rosie the Riveter" as a ship worker in World War II in Portland.
She also was a bookkeeper and homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Anthony of Eugene, and Patrick; five daughters, Christina of Portland, Claire Goldsmith of Portland, Roberta Austin of Springfield, Lynn Reichart of Bellingham, Wash., and Michelle of Eugene; a sister, Bertha Heisler of Salem; six grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, a great-grandchild and five step-great-grandchildren.
