Willy-Jan Brusse has a degree in Architecture from the Higher Technical College (HTS) in Amsterdam.
After finishing his degree, he was drafted into the Royal Dutch Army (Signal Troops), where he spent 2 years.
Willy-Jan immigrated to Canada in 1968.
He met his wife Mattie Been in Calgary in 1969 and in December that year, they returned to the Netherlands to get married in Aalsmeer (12-Dec-1969).
Willy has made his career in the Engineering and Construction industry in western Canada, related to oil and gas.
He started as a draftsman working for Montreal Engineering and Delta Projects (1968-1973). He worked as a Project Scheduler/Planner, Estimator and Lead Planner, Manager of Project Controls for Stearns-Roger Engineering (1973-1986). He worked for Dominion Bridge Construction Company as a Lead estimator and Project Manager (1986-1995). Willy finished his career with Colt Engineering as a department head for Project Controls and Project Services (1995-2010) and retired at 10-10-2010.
His coat of arms is "A Shield of Silver, charged with a Climbing Bear of Sable".
Willy's greatest hobby was Model Trains. He joint the N-scale club CANTRAK in 1976 and was a member till the mid 2020's. Serving many years on the Board of directors.
Willy's second hobby was genealogy and he researched the entire Brusse family, publishing a genealogy book in 1993 called "The History of the Brusse Family from Amsterdam"
