Mail van Michael Los (Kleinzoon.):
Hi Teun,
Hoe goes het?
Thank you for your response! I see, so we are distant cousins perhaps?
In regards to information on the Los family I can give you this.
Ary Jan Los married Beryl Florence Portas.
They had four children,
1. Dorothy Lynette Los
2. Margaret Claire Los
3. Trevor John Los
4. Graham Arthur Los
My father is Graham.
Dad married Marie-Thérèse Connolly, my mother in 1983.
They have two children
1. Michael Arthur Los (me) 1994
2. Andrew Thomas Los 1996
Ary Jan Los, my poppa, moved to Australia in 1936. He came on a wool boat making its journey back to Australia to collect wool and bring it back to Europe. The journey travelled through the Mediterranean and the Middle East through the Suez Canal. The Great Depression forced Eimert Johannes off of his lease farm when the owners had to sell the property to pay off debts. So my poppa, who was intending to be a doctor, had to move and live with his uncle Gosse Engel Los.
When pop got to Australia he anglicised his name, to John. Up until I was 10 I didn't know his name was Ary Jan! I thought his name was always John. When he was in hospital, the nurses would pronounce his name "R-Eee Jan" Jan like in the word "January".
Pop spent the first few years here clearing the land, which at that time had only just been released to settlers. He eventually bought our farm which my father and brother still work today.
In total Poppa has 28 descendants made up of 4 children, 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Hope this is of interest,
Thanks Teun!
