Gertrude Jelgerhuis, 93, of Orange City, died Friday, Nov. 29,1991 at the Sioux Center Community Nursing Home. Services were held Monday, Dec. 2 at Van Etten-Oolman- Van Gelder Funeral Home in Orange City. The Rev. Martin Vander Wilt of the American Reformed Church in Orange City officiated. Interment followed at West Lawn Cemetery
in Orange City.
Gertrude was born Oct. 18, 1898 at Sioux Center, the daughter of Gerrit and Evertje De Mots. She was raised at Sioux Center where she graduated from high school. She was then mployed as a telephone operator. She married Howard Jelgerhuis June 18,1921 at Sioux Center. They lived in Orange City. He died July 5, 1974 at Orange City.
Mrs. Jelgerhuis was a resident of Orange Colony and the Pioneer Memorial Home, both in Orange City. In 1986 she transferred to the Sioux Center Community Nursing Home. She was a member of the American Reformed Church. In earlier years she had been involved in the women's organizations. Survivors include her sister, Elizabeth Rodenburgh of Sioux Center, and nephews and nieces.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Cora Muilenburg, and four brothers, Dr. Henry, John, Gerrit and Jacob De Mots.
