  Gauzfrid of Maine (died 878) was both Count of Maine and Margrave of the Norman March from 865 until his death. He was a son of Rorgon of Maine by his wife Bichilde.
  
  In 861, Charles the Bald, king of West Francia created the March of Neustria, combining the Norman March and the Breton March. They were invested to Adalard the Seneschal and Robert the Strong respectively. Gauzfrid and his brother Rorgon II, who was Count of Maine at the time, revolted against Robert. The two brothers allied with Salomon of Brittany in opposition to Robert the Strong.
  
  In 865, Rorgon II died and Gauzfrid became the new Count of Maine. The same year, Charles the Bald deprived Adalard's family of their land in Neustria, and awarded it to Gauzfrid.
  
  He had several children.

  Upon his death in 878, Gauzfrid's lands passed to his cousin Ragenold, because Gauzfrid's children were too young to succeed.

  Gauzfrid, mort en 878, fut comte du Maine de 865 à 878 et marquis de Neustrie de 865 à 878. Il était fils cadet de Rorgon Ier, comte du Maine, et de Bilichilde.
  
  En 861, Charle le Chauve créa les marches de Neustrie et les confia à Robert le Fort et à Adalard le Sénéchal. Gauzfrid et son frère aîné Rorgon II, possessionné dans la région, y virent une menace pour leur puissance, se révoltèrent et s'allièrent à Salomon de Bretagne.
  
  En 865, Rorgon II mourut et Gauzfrid lui succéda dans le Maine. La même année Charles le Chauve retira la marche à Adalhard, et, en échange de sa soumission, la donna à Gauzfrid.
  
  Ses enfants ne sont pas connus avec certitudes. Deux fils sont certains :
  
  Gauslin († 914), comte du Maine
  Gauzbert, comte cité en 912
  
  Selon les travaux de Katharine S. B. Keats-Rohan, il faudrait rajouter deux fils probables :
  
  Gauzfred ou Geoffroy, comte cité en 886
  Hervéus ou Hervé, comte cité en 912
  
  Il mourut en 878 et ses honores revinrent à un cousin Ragenold d'Herbauges, ses enfants, s'il en eut, étant trop jeunes pour lui succéder.
