Kind(er):
Isack Coymans, the son of Thomas Coeymans and Tanneken van Pelleken and the nephew of Jasper Coymans and of the famous collector Balthasar Coymans, was born in Hamburg in 1581 and died in Amsterdam in 1640. He was still a bachelor in 1615 when he signed the Album Amicorum of the famous fencing master Gerard Thibault (H. de la Fonataine Verwey, Gerard Thibault en zijn 'Academie de l'epee', Jaarboek Amstelodamum 69(19777), p. 52.) He may have been one of Thibault's fencing pupils. On 15 November 1617, Carlo van Heldewier, Isaacq Coymans, merchants, and Adriaen van Nieulandt, painter, made a deposition at the request of Daniel van Gele (Daniel van Geel II, probably of R 31393), likewise merchant, in which they declared that Daniel van Geel had bought two paintings by Hendrick van Steenwijck, representing churches in perspective, one by day and one by night, from the Antwerp art dealer Anthony Goetkint (Bredius, Künstler-inventare, p.167n). On 3 April 1620, he was betrothed to Wijntge Reynst, the daughter of the rich merchant and collector Gerrit Reynst and of Margareta Nicquet (DTB 424/182 and Elias, Vroedschap, p. 760). Gerrit Reynst became governor general of the Dutch East Indies where he died in 1615. Isack Coymans became a broker in 1633 and lived on the Herengracht (Elias, Vroedschap, p. 760). On 8 July 1631, Isaac Koimans transferred his meublen, inboedel, ende huysraden, including numerous attributed paintings, to Samuel Blommart of R 21578. Adam Bessels of R 35041 was one of the individuals who supervised the transaction (NA 713, film 5147, fol. 438 and foll.) This transfer may have had something to do with Isaack's financial troubles. He was accused by the Church Council of embezzelment (verduistering) (Roodenburg, Onder censuur, p. 376). The daughter of Isaack Coijmans (I), named Maria, born in 1600 and buried in 1681, married Joris van Oorschot, silk cloth dealer in Amsterdam, on 2 January 1652 (Elias, ibid.) For the inventory of Joris Oorschot after the death of his second wife, see INVNO 449 of Montias1. Isaac Coymans II, the son of our buyer, baptized on 23 August 1622, married Helena Schuyt (1623-1678) on 18 June 1623. She was the daughter of Albert Schuyt of R 28923 and of Constantia de Haze (or Haes) (Elias, loc.cit.)
