Bereits 1596 nahm er als Freiwilliger an der https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eroberung_von_C%C3%A1diz">Eroberung von Cádiz teil, nachdem er zuvor mit der englischen Flotte nach Südamerika hatte fahren wollen, um dort gegen die Spanier zu kämpfen. Danach konnte er https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wachtendonk">Wachtendonk einnehmen. 1602 war er beim Angriff auf Luxemburg dabei. 1604 nahm er an der Belagerung von Sluis teil, wo er ein Fieber bekam, an dem er dann starb.
Er war seit dem 7. Juni 1601 mit der Gräfin Anna Margarethe von Manderscheid-Gerolstein (* 10. August 1575; † 4. März 1606). He was the thirteenth and youngest child of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_VI,_Count_of_Nassau-Dillenburg">John VI of Nassau and his first wife Elisabeth of Leuchtenberg (1537–1579).
He studied in Switzerland and then, like many of his brothers, he joined the Ducht army. He fought under his brother https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Louis,_Count_of_Nassau-Dillenburg">William Louis and his cousin https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maurice_of_Nassau,_Prince_of_Orange">Maurice. In 1596 he participated as a volunteer in the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capture_of_Cadiz">Capture of Cadiz. His cousin appointed him to lieutenant general in 1600 and he excelled in the ;https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Nieuwpoort">Battle of Nieuwpoort. He then managed to take https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wachtendonk">Wachtendonk. In 1602 he led an attack on Luxembourg. In 1604 he took part in the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Sluis_(1604)">siege of Sluis, where he died of a fever.
He married on 7 June 1601 with Countess Anna Margareta of Manderscheid-Gerolstein (10 August 1575 – 4 March 1606). Anna Margareta was the daughter of Count John Gerhard of Manderscheid-Gerolstein and the widow of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wirich_VI,_Count_of_Daun-Falkenstein">Wirich VI, Count of Daun-Falkenstein. The marriage remained childless.
