Kind(er):
Martyn Christiaan Sweerts (at the end of his life he adds the name de Landas to his) is Quartermaster of Kempenland and bailiff of the lord of Oirschot. In 1672 he buys the half glory of Oirschot from the bankrupt estate of Ferdinand de Merode, thus becoming lord of Oirschot. In order to be able to fulfill his dynastic obligations as a lord, Martyn, 54 years old, married in 1684 in The Hague with 16-year-old Clementia Geertruid van Els to Boedelham from Arnhem. They get four daughters and a son. When Martyn dies in 1704, his son, Jacob Dirck, is only nine years old, and so his mother temporarily appears as regent of the lord of Oirschot. The wife of Oirschot is not very fond of the throne, Jacobus Coenraets, who has appointed her husband just before his death. Coenraets is also the throne of Hilvarenbeek, and is, to the annoyance of, among others, Reverend de Wildt, extremely tolerant towards the Catholics. The douairière Sweerts de Landas appointed Pieter de Leeuw as a throne in 1708, but Jacobus Coenraats appealed to the Council of Brabant against this appointment. He gets his right, and Coenraats is reappointed on 24 August 1708 after some protest from the wife of Oirschot. Yet, in 1711, the Reverend the Wildt complains to the pastors who come to visit the Protestant church and schools that the cross-horse does not sufficiently oppose the "papal boldnesses" of the Catholic population. At the vacancy of the secretary's office in 1717, Oirschot's wife made it clear to the aldermen at an early stage that it was her turn to appoint a new secretary. The family members of the previous secretary, Daniel van Heemskerck, would like to keep the lucrative function in the family, and so the Kempenland, Willem van Heemskerck, remembers his son Leonard directly with the States-General. The lady already has her own candidate in mind. Leonard de Marcq is the son of a French boarding school keeper from Utrecht, and the manager of lady Geertruijdt Dorothea born Golsteijn to Blijwerven, customs officer of Johan Baptista Bartholotti van den Heuvel to Buuchling, the lord van Rijnenburgh, Hoeckenburgh, Blijwerven and bailiff and dike from the Bijlmermeer. Their daughter, also called Geertruijt, is the fiancée of Jacob Dirck, the future lord of Oirschot. On 13 January 1717 the wife of Oirschot appointed Leonard de Marcq as secretary of Oirschot. The family van Heemskerck sputters a bit, but ultimately the appointment of Leonard de Marcq is approved by the States General. Lady Clementia usually lives at the Haanwijk castle in St. Michielsgestel which since 1650 is owned by the Sweerts de Landas family. Jacob Dirck Sweerts de Landas has come of age for many years when his mother finally transfers the lordship Oirschot to him. All the while she has exercised the power of glory with great precision. Clementia Geertruijd from Els to Boedelham dies in 's-Hertogenbosch on December 30, 1731. The aldermen decide, according to old custom, that the three bells and the shrill will be sounded three times a day for six weeks, from six to seven o'clock in the morning, from eleven to twelve o'clock in the morning and from six to seven o'clock in the evening. The job is assumed by Bartel Buckincx, who is paid 36 guilders for that. Jacobus Coenraets resigns in 1733 as a Drossaard van Oirschot. He apparently waited for the death of the woman, who would have loved him so badly. He continues to live in Oirschot, where he dies in 1748.
