Mary Oostenbrug, age 88, of Sanborn, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2011, at Sanford Senior Care Center in Sheldon, Iowa.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday, September20, 2011, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church in Sanborn, Iowa. Rev. Tom Conner officiating.
Burial in the Roseland Cemetery in Sanborn, Iowa.
Visitation will be Monday, September 19, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon.
Memorials may be sent to Sanford Hospice Sheldon or St. Andrew's United Methodist Church in Sanborn, Iowa.
Mary Hannah Oostenbrug was born to John and Ida (Gaul) McGinty on January 24, 1923 in Sioux City, Iowa, and was one of 12 children.
She married Willis (Chuck) Oostenbrug on January 14, 1944, in Chicago, while Chuck was on a weekend military leave. Mary lived with her mother whileChuck served in Germany. Upon his return, they settled in Sanborn, Iowa. They raised their four children there, while owning and operating Chuck's IGA Grocery for 35 years. Mary was very involved in their church and in the community.
She loved bowling, golf, playing bridge, and her family and friends. Mary had great compassion for everyone she met and helped whenever asked.
She passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2011, at Sanford Senior Care Center in Sheldon, Iowa.
Mary is survived by 2 daughters, Pam Raymond of Adel and Mary Beth Oostenbrug (Larry Cormicle) of Ames, 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, sisters Ida Mae Borschuck of Sioux City, Beverly Waechter of Newport, Washington, brother Dick McGinty of Fresno, California, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 66 years, daughter Glenda Verbrugge, son Terry Oostenbrug, and grandson Tim Longman.
Mary's family wishes to thank the caregivers at the Sanford Senior Care Center for their loving, compassionate care.
