Grace Vander Lugt was born to Jacobus and Maria (Van Vliet) Verbrugge on February 9, 1906 near Leota, Minnesota. When she was a young girl, she moved with her parents to a farm near Chandler, Minnesota where she was raised and attended country school. On February 3, 1929, she was united in marriage to Hubert Vander Lugt. Most of their married life was spent farming. In 1960, they retired from farming and moved to Edgerton, Minnesota. Her husband preceded her in death in August, 1978. Grace became a resident of the Edgebrook Rest Center in Edgerton in March, 1988. She died there on July 6, 1995 at the age of 89 years, 4 months and 28 days.
Grace was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Edgerton. Throughout the years, she knitted many bandages for mission projects. She enjoyed her flower garden, especially her geraniums and moss roses.
She is lovingly remembered by her seven children, Pete and Lauretta Vander Lugt, Edgerton, Marie and Henry Dyk, Edgerton; Johanna and Willis Wieberdink, Prinsburg, MN; Alma and Don De Vries, South Holland, IL; James and Nathalee Vander Lugt, Edgerton; John and Joanne Vander Lugt, Granville, MI; and Dorothy and Daryl Baar, Sioux Falls, SD; 23 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Hattie Vedders, Pease, MN; Alice Van Schepen, Breton, IA; and Nellie Christians, Edgerton; and one brother Nick Verbrugge, Orange City, IA. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers and two sisters.
