Elso Ryks, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Ryks, was born January 26, 1877 at New beerta, Netherlands and passed away peacefully at his home early September 13, 1937 at the age of 60 years, seven months and seventeen days. He grew to manhood in the Netherlands and on December 11, 1898 he was united in marriage to Florence Hector. This union was blessed by the birth of eight children. In 1901, Mr. and Mrs. Ryks came to America making their home near Parkersburg Iowa, for thirteen years. In 1914 the family moved to Mower County, Minnesota, where they made their home in the vicinity of Rose Creek for five years. Eighteen years ago the family bought a farm six miles east of Austin where they have since resided. Mr. Ryks always followed the occupation of farming. He was a hard worker and good neighbor; He was faithful to his home being a good husband and a kind father. He was in fair health until about a year and a half ago. He went to Rochester for further treatment and all that was possible was done for him, but for the last nine months his health has been rapidly failing. He was patient and uncomplaining in his suffering right up to the end when the release came. He is survived by his wife, by his three daughters; Sena, Mrs. Henry Hertle; Carrie, Mrs. Lewis Thomas and Gertie, Mrs. Vern Pettit all of Austin, and by his five sons; Hammo, Elso Jr., Ben, Louie and George all of Austin, By six brothers and one sister; by 19 grandchildren and many friends. The Pall bearers were the following, old time friensds; Henry Ouderkerk of Rose Creek, Fred Sthal of Austin, Jacob Freese, Ralph Hoffman, Henry Conklin and William Boss all of Brownsdale. Funeral services were held from the Jordan Mortuary at 2:00 oclock this afternoon, Rev. W.E. Shields, officiating. Further services were held in the Oakwood cemetery where interment was made.
