Death age 2 yr 9 mo
Fell into a barrel of spring water to cool milk. He became wedged
From the Alton Democrat of August 17, 1895. A distressing accident happened at the farm of Carl Wissink a mile east of town, Tuesday morning. A little son aged three, while playing in the yard, climbed upon a half-barrel filled with spring water, used for the purpose of cooling milk, and fell into the barrel contained a can of milk and the body of the little lad was immersed in such a position that he was unable to get out or make a noise. There he hung until death claimed a victim. Those in the house did not miss him until he had been in the water fully a quarter of an hour, it is estimated, and then the grief stricken family were unable to resuscitate him. Dr, Smith was summoned but to no avail. The funeral occurred Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, p. m. from the Reformed Church and a large audience attested their sympathy with the afflicted family.
