JOHN (JAN) JENINGA 1928 - 2017 Peacefully on Wednesday, December 27, our husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, John (Jan) Jeninga passed away at the Seven Oaks Hospital. His absence leaves a great void in the life of his family with his wife Frances now left to walk the remaining steps of life on her own. He is, therefore, dearly missed by Frances, his wife of 64 years; as well as his children. Heis survived by his sons, Ted (Yvonne), Fred (Claire), Andy (Laurel) and Ron (Tammy); his grandchildren, Adam, Aaron, Nick, Mark, Joel, Meagan, Justine and Chynoah; as well as nine great-grandchildren. He treasured them all. He was predeceased by his daughter Greetje (1961) . Born and married in the Netherlands, he worked for a number of years as an electrician in the coalmines of Limburg. Desiring to follow some family members who had already immigrated and also to provide new opportunities for his family, he came to Canada in April 1960. Not having a job waiting for him, he worked doing farmwork, delivered groceries by bicycle and did odd jobs until he landed a job at Pioneer Electric and later at Manitoba Hydro. He worked at Manitoba Hydro for 31 years until he retired in 1990. In his retirement, he enjoyed some travelling and lots of camping. He loved to sing and share a joke. His optimistic and positive attitude, even during hard times, was so encouraging to his family. He was anactive member of the Transcona Christian Reformed church. He received great care from the Concordia Hospital, as well as during short stays at the Middlechurch Personal Care Home and Seven Oaks Hospital. In addition, his brother-in-law Herman and sister-in-law Reit were such a support for the family. He was blessed to be surrounded by many other friends who showed their care daily. His memorial Funeral Service will be held at the Transcona Christian Reformed Church, 131 Victoria Ave. on Wednesday, January 3 at 1:00 pm. People wishing to make a donation, John would really appreciate support tothe CNIB that was a great support to him during his time of impaired vision. A private family interment at Sunnyside Cemetery will take place prior to the service. seasonsfunerals.ca
