Rol: Daughter
Mrs. Gerrit Oostenburg, 47,
Passed Away Last Wednes.
Friends here were saddened last week to hear of the death of Mrs. Gerrit Oostenburg of Primghar, formerly of this place, in a Sioux City hospital. She died Wednesday night, February 12th. She had submitted to an operation for gall bladder trouble and complications set in, causing her death.
Funeral services were held a Primghar on Saturday afternoon. February 15th and the remains were brought to Hull for burial in Hope Cemetery. Short services were held here at the Chapel.
God in His great wisdom saw fit to take to Himself Mrs. Gerrit Oostenburgon Wednesday night. February 12th 1941, at 9:30 o'clock, at the age of 47 years.
Mrs. Oostenburg, nee Jennie Kooiker, was born near Sheldon in Sioux County, Iowa on October 1, 1893. She became the bride of Mr. Gerrit Ooostenburg in Sheldon on February 12, 1914. The day of her death, therefore, was also the occasion of her twenty-seventh wedding anniversary.
After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Oostenburg lived in both Sioux and O'Brien counties, and five years ago moved to near Primghar.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Kooiker in 1895, by her son Raymond, at the age of 5 years in 1922, and by her infant son, William, at the age of seven months, in 1920.
Those left to mourn her passing are her husband and ten children, namely: Alice (Mrs. Wm. Waanders) of Sioux City, Bernice (Mrs. Clifford Ruby) of Sheldon, Verne, Willis, Ann, Margaret, Lloyd, Glenn, Edith, and Keith - all at home, and one grandchild, David William Waanders. She also has left behind her mother, Mrs. Horling of Hull, one sister - Mrs. Ruth Nooman of Melvin, three brothers - Lubert R. and Lambert Kooiker of Hull and Albert Horlings of New York State.
Mrs. Oostenburg leaves a host of friends and was admired as a mother and in many other ways. She made confession of her faith in Christ in the Reformed Church of Sheldon during the pastorate of the Rev. M. Vander Nald, and at her death was a member of the American Reformed Church of Primghar. She was active in her church work and was very diligent in teaching her children the faith she possessed. Until the time of her sickness she was faithful in her church attendance, was a member of the adult Sunday School class and a member of the Ladies Aid.
Her devoted Christian Life, her interest in the work of the Kingdom, and her willingness to serve remain as her memorial. "She hath done what she could." Her gain is our loss.
We extend our sympathy to her husband, her children and loved ones, commending them to Him who knoweth and doeth all things according to His own purpose.
