Conrad “Con” Geleynse, age 86, of Everson, went home to his Lord and Savior on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010.
A lifetime Whatcom County resident, he was born to Bartel and Dena (Schiebout) Geleynse on June 5, 1923. Con was married to Jeanette Woudstra in Lynden on March 12, 1943. Together they raised their family of 12 children and cared for 60 foster children. To support his large family, Conrad worked numerous jobs, which included dairy farming, carpentry, Boeing maintenance and as a mercantile store clerk. His hobbies included camping, golf and watching wrestling. Con treasured watching his grandkids play basketball. He was a longtime member of Christ Fellowship Church (formerly Nooksack Valley Baptist) where he served as a deacon. Active in the community, he and Jeanette served at the Everson Food Bank for a number of years. Con also enjoyed listening to Gaither Trio music.
He was preceded in death by grandchildren Lamont, Daniel and Courtney; brother Delbert; and sisters Cora Eshuis and Leona Leenders.
Con is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Jeanette; children Glenda (David) Young, Delores (Ted) Vander Meulen, Marcia (Del) Otter, Janice (Chris) Crabtree, Connie Magana, Doug (Dawn) Geleynse, Duane (Nina) Geleynse, David (Charlotte) Geleynse, Lloyd Geleynse, Dean Geleynse, Darlys (Manny) Kimmie, Denise (Eriq) Brower; 35 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; brothers Rene and Chris Geleynse; sisters Dena Poortinga and Johanna VanderPol; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
A graveside service is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 27, at 11 a.m. in Nooksack Cemetery and a 1 p.m. memorial service will follow at Christ Fellowship Church, 1208 E. Main St., Everson.
