Ermentrude had a gift for embroidery and an interest in religious foundations. Her husband gave her the Abbey of Chelles. She separated from her husband after he executed her rebellious brother William in 866, and retreated to the life of a nunnery. Ermentrude was buried in the Basilique Saint-Denis, Paris, France.

Ermentrude Of Orleans (also Hirmentrude, Irmintrud, 823-869 AD) was a Frankish noblewoman. Daughter of Odo, Count of Orleans and Engeltrude, she married Charles the Bald, King of France in 842.

She was a gifted embroiderer and was interested in religious foundations. Charles gave her the nunnery of Chelles. She died in 869.

Première femme de Charles le Chauve, Ermentrude était la petite-fille d'un seigneur puissant, Adalhard, et la fille du comte d'Orléans Eudes I er . Son mariage, qui fut célébré le 14 décembre 842 à Crécy-en-Ponthieu, fut une ¶uvre de politique. D'ascendance illustre, Ermentrude comptait parmi ses ancêtres Charles Martel, Pépin le Bref ou encore Didier, roi des Lombards et père de Désidérade, l'une des épouses de Charlemagne.
Charles II en eut au moins quatre fils et quatre filles : Louis, né en 846, qui fut roi de France et empereur sous le nom de Louis le Bègue ; Charles, né en 847, mort avant son père et sacré roi d'Aquitaine ; Carloman (né en 849 et mort en 876), qui eut les yeux crevés par l'ordre de son père sur le soupçon d'une conspiration ; Lothaire, dit le Boîteux (né en 850 et mort en 866), abbé de Monstier-en-Der et de Saint-Germain-d'Auxerre ; Judith (née en 846 et morte en 871), qui épousa successivement ¥thelwulf, puis le fils de ce dernier, avant Baudoin Ier dit Bras de Fer, comte de Flandres ; Rotrude, abbesse de Sainte-Croix-de-Poitiers ; Ermentrude, abbesse d'Hasnon ; Godehilde, née en 865.
En 869, Ermentrude mourut dans le monastère de Saint-Denis où elle fut ensevelie : elle est nommée dans tout le règne de Charles comme l'ayant accompagné dans les chasses et dans les assemblées ; quelquefois il semble que l'autorité souveraine soit partagée entre le roi et sa femme ; dans des actes publics on lit : La reine ordonne. Lors de la réconciliation de Lothaire et de Charles, à Attigny, il est dit que c'est par l'intervention d'Ermentrude, que Lothaire, qui avait envoyé un message de paix, reçut de son frère une réponse favorable.
Des éléments extérieurs au royaume avaient semé la discorde dans le couple royal : les démêlés matrimoniaux du neveu Lothaire II, roi de Lotharingie (Lorraine). Ce dernier voulant dès 857 répudier sa femme Theutberge pour cause de stérilité en vue d'épouser sa maîtresse Valdrade, l'affaire avait été portée devant quatre synodes : deux en 860 (janvier et février), un en 862 et un autre en 863. Chaque fois, Lothaire II avait obtenu gain de cause auprès des évêques, et le pape Nicolas Ier s'était vu contraint d'en casser les délibérations en 863 pour maintenir Theutberge comme épouse légitime.
Mais si Ermentrude avait fermement soutenu Theutberge, Charles le Chauve, lui, avait plaidé en faveur de son neveu Lothaire II et s'était fait rappelé à l'ordre par le pape. Ces dissensions avaient amené Ermentrude à fuir la Cour en 867 pour s'installer à l'abbaye de Hasnon près de Valenciennes. Après la mort de Lothaire II le 8 août 869, Charles II le Chauve pénètre en Lotharingie et se fait sacrer à Metz par Hincmar, archevêque de Reims, le 9 septembre 869. Un mois plus tard, Ermentrude était morte.
Elle était en disgrâce depuis deux ans déjà, et Charles aimait depuis longtemps une autre femme qu'il se hâta d'épouser. Voilà le récit un peu abrégé que l'on trouvre dans les Annales de Saint-Bertin : « Charles ayant appris dans sa maison de Donzy, le 9 octobre, que sa femme Ermentrude était morte le 6, envoya aussitôt Boson, fils du feu comte Bouin, en message vers sa mère et sa tante maternelle, veuve du roi Lothaire, afin qu'il lui amenât sa s¶ur Richilde ; c'est pourquoi il donna à ce même Boson l'abbaye de Saint-Martin et d'autres bénéfices, et se rendit en toute hâte au palais d'Aix, en y conduisant cette seconde femme » .

Ermentrude d'Orléans (ou Hermentrude), (825-869), fille de Eudes d'Orléans (ou Vodon d'Orléans) et d'Engeltrude de Fézensac, descendante de Charles Martel[réf. nécessaire], elle épousa Charles II le Chauve en 846 à Quierzy-sur-Oise, et fut couronnée à Saint-Médard de Soissons. Son mariage ne fut pas heureux car le roi vouait une passion à sa concubine Richilde d'Ardennes, sœur de Boson de Provence, duc de la Bourgogne-Cisjurane.

Ermentrude, séparée de Charles en 867, mais non répudiée, se retire à l'abbaye de Hasnon, près de Valenciennes, où elle meurt le 6 octobre 869 à l'âge de 44 ans. Après sa mort, le roi Charles le Chauve épousera sa concubine Richilde d'Ardennes, en 870.

Irmentrud (* 27. September 825; † 6. Oktober 869 in der Abtei Hasnon), Tochter des Grafen Odo von Orléans und der Ingeltrud von Fezensac. Zu ihren Vorfahren zählen Karl Martell, Pippin I., der Ältere und der Langobardenkönig Desiderius.

Am 13./14. Dezember 842 heiratete sie in Quierzy Karl den Kahlen, König des westfränkischen Reiches. 867 trennte sie sich von ihrem Mann (Grund war die Scheidung Lothars II. von seiner Frau Theutberga wegen der Mätresse Waldrada) und zog sich in die Abtei von Hasnon bei Valenciennes zurück, wo sie zwei Jahre später starb. Sie wurde in der Basilika von Saint-Denis beigesetzt.
