Jeanne Thérèse du Han de Martigny (1707-10-30 Lunéville â 1748-05-07 Nancy) was born and baptized the same day in Lunéville, in the duchy of Lorraine, now part of France, and died in Nancy, the principal city of Lorraine. She was the daughter of Louis-Philippe du Han, comte de Martigny (1678 â 1733) and his wife Catherine Françoise de Roquefeuil de Puydebar (c.1680 â 1764). The Du Han de Martigny were an important noble family of Lorraine, with estates in the north of the duchy. Louis-Philippe held posts as conseiller d'état, Chamberlain and Grand Veneur under Duke Léopold I, and his daughters were among the court beauties. In 1731, Jeanne-Thérèse was maid of honour to the Dowager Duchess and Regent of Lorraine, Léopold's widow. She married Granville Elliott on March 15, 1735, in Mannheim, but the couple lived in Lorraine after their marriage, where they had seven children: Marie Charlotte Elliott (1736-05-23 - 1785-02-03) Stanislaus Francois Xavier Elliott (1737-06-07 - after 1752) Amable Gaspard Antoine Elliott (1738-09-04 - 1814-06-30) Charles Phillippe Elliott (1740-12-01 - unknown) Paul Antoine Elliott (1741-06-12 - 1741-07-25) Francois Maximillian Elliott (1741-06-12 - unknown) Jean-Baptiste-François Elliott (1747-06-25 - unknown) After the outbreak of the War of the Austrian Succession, Granville Elliott spent most of his time away fighting. Jeanne Thérèse and her husband Granville appear regularly in the Madame de Graffigny correspondence. [1] Jeanne Thérèse died on 1748-05-07 and was buried two days later in the nave of the Notre-Dame church in Nancy. Her body was reburied when the church was demolished in 1790. Because her husband returned to Britain and remarried, he published a will for Jeanne Therese at London [2].
