Beverly Jean Schipper, age 64, of Aplington, Iowa, was born the daughter of Henry and Anna (Ryks) Berends on August 12, 1938, in Parkersburg, Iowa. She was baptized and was a member of the Parkersburg Christian Reformed Church. She graduated from the Parkersburg High School with the class of 1956. Beverly Berends was united in marriage with Richard W. Schipper on April 23, 1957, at the Parkersburg Christian Reformed Church. They made their home in Austinville, Iowa for a year and moved one mile west of Kesley, Iowa where they farmed for 43 years. In 2001, they moved to their present home in Aplington. Beverly was a loving wife and home-maker to her family. After marriage, Beverly was an active member of the Kesley Presbyterian Church. She taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years and also attended the United Presbyterian Women’s Group. Recently she became a member of the First Reformed Church in Aplington and enjoyed being part of the Women’s Studies group. Beverly liked to bowl and was a member of several area bowling leagues. Beverly also enjoyed attending her children’s activities and later her grandchildren’s activities. In her spare time, she kept herself busy with sewing, crafts, walking and playing cards. On Wednesday, October 23, 2002, Beverly died at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa, of complications of cancer. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Robyn in infancy; her parents; one brother, Marvin Berends; and four sisters, Anita Steinmeyer and Evelyn Renken, and two in infancy, Anna and Shirley Berends. Beverly is survived by her husband, Richard W. Schipper of Aplington; one son, Randall Schipper and his wife, Anne of Ackley, Iowa; two daughters, Rhonda Meester and her husband, Kenny, of Parkersburg and Renae Schachterle and her husband, John, of Ackley; seven grandchildren, Brad (Jamie), Brooke and Brittney Meester, Amanda and Kyle Schipper and Katie and Jacob Schachterle; one great granddaughter, Lily Meester; and six sisters, Florence Harms of Ackley, Carrie Kruger and her husband, Bernerd Sr., of Holland, Iowa, Marjorie Rewerts and her husband, Herman, of Parkersburg, Frances Schipper and her husband, Alvin, of Kesley, Dee Christophel and her husband, Rich, of Aplington and Karen Karsjens and her husband, Bud, of Aplington. Funeral Services were held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 28, 2002 at the First Reformed Church, Aplington, Iowa with Rev. Harlan De Jong officiating. Organist was Lois Wessels. Soloist David Harms sang “Precious Memories” and “One Day At A Time.” Congregational Hymns were “In The Garden” and “How Great Thou Art.” Casketbearers were Dennis Harms, Terry Schipper, Bernerd Kruger, Jr., Scott Schipper, Dennis Schipper, Rick Brouwer. Flower Committee was Lenora Hemmen, JoAnn Schipper, and Kay Eilers. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Parkersburg, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel, Aplington, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family.
