(http://www.ssristories.com/show.php?item=1373)ANKENY (AP) - Autopsy results indicate Larry Buttz shot his 12-year-old daughter twice, killed his 15-year-old son and his wife with single shots, then killed himself, the Polk County medical examiner said.
Buttz, 41, daughter Lindsey, son Ryan and wife DeLane, 38, were found shot to death in their Ankeny home Tuesday morning. Investigators believe Larry Buttz shot his children, then his wife after finding out DeLane Buttz was having an affair."'I believe that they all died in their sleep," Dr. Francis Garrity said after autopsies were completed Wednesday.Garrity said DeLane Buttz was struck in the front of the head with a blunt object before being shot in the back of the head. That has led investigators to believe that Larry Buttz might have incapacitated his wife before walking up to the bedroom shared by his children and shooting them, Garrity said.Lindsey was shot twice, possibly indicating that Ryan was shot first when their father had more time to aim, Garrity said.Ankeny police believe Larry Buttz called 911 at 6:16 a.m. Tuesday. Officers arrived about eight minutes later, finding the front door unlocked. On Oct. 9, Larry Buttz was arrested and charged with simple assault after DeLane Buttz told police he had assaulted her in their home. ANKENY MAN SHOOTS WIFE, CHILDREN, HIMSELF
ANKENY, Iowa - A man accused in a domestic assault last month shot his wife and two children Tuesday morning, call 911, then crawled back into bed and shot himself, police said.
The bodies of Delane Buttz, 39, and her two children, Ryan, 15, and Lindsey, 12 were found in their beds ?Sas if they?ud been sleeping,?T acting Police Chief Merlin Christians said at a news conference Tuesday.
Larry Buttz, 41, was in the master bedroom with his wife.
Christians said police believe it was Larry Buttz who called 911 at 6:16 a.m. Two officers, who were on the scene with eight minutes, found the front door unlocked.
By mid-morning, the bright yellow, two-story house was roped off with police tape, and the street had been closed to traffic. Neighbors stood at the end of their driveways and watched as the medical examiner?us vans pulled out of the garage and officers pulled the Butts family cars back in.
?SI?um kind of numb right now,?T said Dennis Wilkerson, who lives two houses away. ?SI was coming home from work and I saw all this and I didn?ut know what it was.?T
Wilkerson said the Buttz family had lived in the neighborhood for at least five years. He said they were active in neighborhood gatherings, and the last time he had socialized with them was at a block party at the end of July.
The neighborhood scene Tuesday, was eerily similar.
?SThe street was all closed off, kind of like it is now. And everyone was milling around talking. Kind of like they are now,?T he said.
On Oct. 9, Larry Butt was arrested and charged with simple assault after Delane Buttz told police he had assaulted her in their home. That was the only incident on record, Christians said.
?SThey were a nice family. If it was domestic, we didn?ut know of any problems,?T Wilkerson said. ?SIt?us a friendly neighborhood. Everybody waves at each other.?T
Christians said police had recovered a revolver believed to be the weapon.
It was not immediately known if police had found a note from Larry Buttz in the home.
