Christian Bates died Saturday morning at 2:15 o'clock at St. Elizabeth hospital. He was taken to the hsopital Thursday suffering with a complicaiton of diseases.
The deceased as born in Ohio February 24, 1837. He was a veteran of the Civil War serving three yars in companies B, and G of the 82nd Indiana Infantry. He enlosed in Logansport in 1854 he came to Lafayette and was married to miss Fannie Goelkins (should be Boelkins) in 1867. The widow survives him. To this union were born seven children, three of whom survive Mrs. Henry English of Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs. Charles Dixon of Rochester, IN Mrs. Novle Ensley of Lafayette. Three sisters and one brother, Mrs. Louise Werling, Mrs. Addie Borngnassor and George Bates all of Fairbury, IL. He also leaves one grandaughter, Mrss Lura Ball of Chicago.
The body was taken to Frank and Son undertaking parlors to be prepared for burial. The body may be viewed from Sunday afternoon until the funeral Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence 1325 Greenbush street. Rev. George will officiate. The internment will take place in Springvale cemetery.
